Back Issues #1: Top 3 Things You Won’t Find In Jonathan Hickman’s New Avengers [Comic]

Here’s a fun little factoid: for some time now, Multiversity has been attempting to put a web strip together. Just something fun, simple, topical and potentially humorous, in the vein of strips I love like Lets Be Friends Again or Comic Critics. And while I may never be as funny as Curt, Chris, Sean and Brandon, I figured we could at least try. So when the column Walter Richardson and I used to do, Weekend Week in Review, ended last year (because, honestly, it was quite difficult to keep up with), we eventually figured out that doing this strip could be a form of having our cake and eating it too. Maybe even having two cakes!

So now that 2013 has kicked off, without further ado, our first strip for what we hope to maintain as a new weekly webstrip here on Multiversity – Back Issues. And please give a warm, warm welcome to our artist, Andrea Vásquez!

Last week, Jonathan Hickman took over what has been Brian Bendis’ seminal Marvel title since the tail end of 2004. Quite a big set of britches to fill! Of course, some differences are to be expected. Makes you wonder what sort of things Hickman will be dropping from the Title That Bendis Built?

Matthew Meylikhov and Walter Richardson used to make bad jokes in Weekend Week in Review. Now they make them in Back Issues.

Andrea Vásquez is a young artist from Chile, and is much more talented than both Matt and Walt. You can see her work on DeviantArt, Tumblr and the webcomic Batgirl Incorporated.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."

I really enjoyed the Weekend Week in Review, so I’m glad you two are doing another project together.

Thanks! We are excited to finally get this off the ground. WWIR was fun, it just got to be a bit laborious and stopped being fun. I have a hard time seeing that happen with this.

Back Issues #12: The Consequences of Furiosa

    By Matthew Meylikhov | Jul 17, 2015 | Comics

It has been two months since the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, and still the love for Furiosa has hardly ebbed. And who’s surprised? Charlize Theron was an essential part of the exhilarating action flick, and totally stole the show from the supposed lead, Tom Hardy. But with all the fanart from otherwise professional […]

Back Issues #11: The Hulk Has Landed

    By Matthew Meylikhov | Jul 8, 2015 | Comics

Marvel’s got a whole mess of relaunches coming our way, and noticeably among them is the Totally Awesome Hulk, a relaunch of the franchise written by Greg Pak and Frank Cho featuring a brand new, totally awesome Hulk. Relaunching a franchise with a new hero in the main character’s old tights is often a desperate […]

Back Issues #10: Try Both, Pick a Side

    By Matthew Meylikhov | Jun 24, 2015 | Comics

DC’s got a lot going on right now, what with a soft-relaunch post-“Convergence” and ‘The Darkseid War’ ramping up in the pages of Geoff Johns’ “Justice League” series. But all that said, this month neither Darkseid nor the Anti-Monitor particularly seem like the most nefarious villain running rampant in the pages of DC Comics right […]
