Last year’s “Evolution of Abe Sapien” art contest at Multiversity was a massive success, and on top of that, it was a whole lot of fun. We loved seeing what all of you aspiring artists came up with for the art contest, and we enjoyed it so much that we’re doing it again this year, except with a different character.

Today begins our “20 Years of Hellboy” art contest, which we’re putting together in concert with our friends at Dark Horse. It’s been 20 years this month since Mike Mignola officially unveiled Hellboy and his world, and it’s been a wild ride ever since. We’re here to celebrate that with this contest and a months worth of amazing content – including Hellboy pieces every day of the month from some of the industry’s top artists.

This contest challenges you, an aspiring artist, to create a piece that celebrates who Hellboy is, and where he’s come from. It’s your interpretation of his first 20 years, so go wild, and if you end up being one of the chosen few, you could win a pretty sweet prize pack.

The prizes for the winner include:

– All six of the Hellboy Library Editions
– The “Hellboy: The First 20 Years” Hardcover
– Your piece will be featured in an upcoming issue in the Mignolaverse

That’s not all. Two runner-ups will earn all five rare variants from the “Reign of the Black Flame” arc that celebrate Hellboy’s first 20 years, from artists like Richard Corben, James Harren and Mike Mignola himself.

There are no rules for what you create. Creativity is encouraged, both in what you depict Hellboy as and what art medium you use. Judging will begin in the beginning of April, with all entrants being boiled down to a top three by a panel comprised of Dark Horse Editor in Chief Scott Allie and the Mignolaversity duo of Brian Salvatore and David Harper.

The winner from there will be decided by none other than Mike Mignola himself.

All pieces must be submitted to Multiversity at Hellboy@multiversitycomics.com by 5 PM, Eastern Standard Time on March 31, 2014, along with your name and location.

Simplified?

– Draw Hellboy.
– Get it into Hellboy@multiversitycomics.com by March 31.
– Maybe win an amazing prize pack.
– Profit.

Look for a ton more this month about Hellboy’s first 20 years, including exciting interviews, informative columns, and our “31 Days of Hellboy” feature that highlights original pieces by artists like Rafael Albuquerque, Mike Norton, Tim Seeley, Laurence Campbell and more created just for this.

This is a great time to be a Mignolaverse fan. Prove how excited you are by entering this contest and maybe winning some awesome swag.

All pieces must be original. International entrants are welcome. The winner cannot be an active professional comic book artist. Other restrictions may apply.
