New Year’s Day brought us the kickoff of a new season of Doctor Who, and this week gave us a new season of Doctor Who comics, featuring a crossover between Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor and David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor (along with a very menacing foe). Our reviewer Alex had this to say about the first issue:
Houser captures the novelty of pairing two Doctors together and manages to keep the script feeling focused all the way through the issue.
BBC’s double-hearted Time Lord/Lady and comics have an extensive history together, going back to First Doctor William Hartnell’s first appearance in the UK 1960s publication TV Comic. In the nearly sixty years since, Doctor Who comics took the form of a serialized strip in Doctor Who Magazine, a graphic novel written by one of the Doctors himself (“The Age of Chaos” by Sixth Doctor Colin Baker), and even a Marvel comic (four issues of “Marvel Premiere” in 1981). Current publisher Titan Comics acquired the Doctor Who license from IDW in 2013, and they have been the home of the TARDIS ever since. And with the debut of Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor, Titan tied the comics and their parent TV series even closer together.
It’s that particular iteration of Doctor Who comics that is the focus of this week’s Reader Poll. Is it Jodie Whittaker’s “fam” you want to be part of most? Or do you agree with Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor that fezzes are cool? Or are you old school and have a love for the man who brought Doctor Who to American consciousness with a long scarf and jelly babies (Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor)?
Vote in our Reader Poll, and check back on Monday for the results! And if you have another non-Titan Doctor Who comics story that you love, tell us in the comments!
