Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Mark’s Picks:
“Rumble” #17 ($3.99)— I feel really weird about having my top pick being a crossover, but John Arcudi and James Harren’s “Rumble” crossed with Andrew MacLean’s “Head Lopper” is comedy gold.
“Steeple” #2 ($3.99)— Speaking of comedy gold, how could I miss John Allison’s “Steeple?” I was already laughing by panel two. (It can’t be helped. He invoked the ridiculousness of bran.)
“Gideon Falls” #17 ($3.99)— Given the way the last arc ended, I couldn’t wait to dive into this one. Plus, it’s just a really great October book what with Hallowe’en being just around the corner.
“Trees: Three Fates” #2 ($3.99)— This is another one of those issues I have on my list based on the strength of previous arcs. As usual, I’m waiting for the whole thing to come out before I read it. Also Greg had some nice things to say about it on Robots From Tomorrow and I trust his judgement.
Total: $15.96

Kevin’s Picks:
“Superman Smashes the Klan” #1 ($7.99) – I debated not spending the money on this book, but somehow the idea of Superman fighting the Ku Klux Klan seems, unfortunately, important to our 2019 moment. Life is crazy and society sucks, so why not sit back with the original SJW and be reminded that indeed Superman hates racists.
“X-Men” #1 ($4.99) – Dawn of X is here. That should be all I gotta say right?
“Justice League” #34 ($3.99) – Just &$#@ing fun should be the tagline for this book.
Total: $16.97

Kate’s Picks:
“X-Men” #1 ($4.99) – And now the fun of Jonathan Hickman’s mutant era begins. If the finale of “Powers of X” last week was any indication, this is going to be a wild ride.
“Superman Smashes the Klan” #1 ($6.99) – I hate that we have to still remind people in 2019 that the KKK is bad, but perhaps this book will get through to them.
“Life is Strange” #9 ($3.99) – A new arc for the series, based on the popular video game, kicks off here. If you want to know all the reasons you should be reading this series, my fellow Multiversity reviewer Chris makes an excellent case in one of our recent Don’t Miss This columns.
Total: $15.97.

Brian’s Picks:
“Journey To Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker Allegiance” #2 ($3.99) – In this pre-Episode IX trailer, pre-The Mandalorian world, I need all the Star Wars I can get. This prelude series is providing just enough Star Wars to keep me over my physician requested weekly dosage, so thank you Marvel Comics.
“Superman Smashes the Klan” #1 ($6.99) – Everything – literally everything – about this is delightful. Buy one for you, and one for a friend.
“X-Men” #1 ($4.99) – Yesterday, Hickman confirmed that all of the ‘Dawn of X’ series will feature informational pages with infographs and whatnot. That means that the extra dollar for this issue is justified. I’m sorry! I don’t make the rules.
