Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:
Citizen Jack #4 ($3.99) – As the American presidential race gets weirder and more heated, “Citizen Jack” just seems to be getting better and better. After the events of last issue, things are looking especially crazy for Jack and Marlinspike as they head towards the White House.
Birthright #14 ($2.99) – By this point, I think we’re largely aware of how good “Birthright” is. Even over a year into it, it’s still a solid book each and every month and shows no sign of slowing down.
Snowfall #1 ($3.99) – I really liked Harris and Morazzo when they worked together on “Great Pacific”, so it’s nice to see them on another project together with “Snowfall”. While this presumably won’t have the ostensible real world connection that “Great Pacific” did, the two working on a book about a world where it never snows and one man fights an all out war using the weather is something worth checking out.
Total: $11.97

Matt Garcia’s Picks:
Snowfall #1 ($3.99) – Joe Harris and Martin Morazzo team up again to bring a new post-apocalyptic environmentally charged sci-fi comic. “Great Pacific” was solid, so it’ll be interesting to see how their collaboration has evolved since that concluded.
Spider-Woman #4 ($3.99) – This has become basically become Die Hard starring Jessica Drew, and it’s been all the better for it.
Archie #6 ($3.99) – Yes, this has been a charming and engaging series, and yes Veronica Fish has held her own in her debut issue, but honestly I’m just going to use this space to wish for more “Sabrina.”
Star Wars #16 ($3.99) – New story arc with Leinil Francis Yu stepping in for Stuart Immonen, who left to go waste his time with some Mark Millar thing. Question: are LucasFilm and Marvel planning to have a different artist for each arc of this series? Because, now that I think about it, I could get behind that.
The Mighty Thor #4 ($3.99) – Another Jason Aaron entry, but goddammit is this series not just a lot of fun! Russell Dauterman has been throwing out these visuals like it’s been nothing, and the more Aaron embraces the high fantasy elements of the story, the better it becomes. Plus, I’m really about this Thor; she may be more fun to read than Odinson.
Total: $19.95

Keith’s Pick:
American Vampire Volume 8 ($22.99) – The latest collection of this vampire tale by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque is sure to be as delectable as the previous volumes. This is one of the best titles on the stands.
Total: $22.99 – It’s a pretty slow week, so splurge and spend a few extra bucks.
