Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Undertow #1 ($2.99) – Weird-ass pulp monster Harryhausen. I don’t know much more about this thing, but what more do any of us need to know?
Wonder Woman #28 ($2.99) – Ah, Wondy – the one thing I can count on in this crazy ‘New 52’ world. Don’t ever change.
The White Suits #1 ($3.99) – Another strong Frank J. Barbiere genre exploration with a ridiculously good artistic effort from his collaborator. Toby Cypress goes nuts all over this thing.
Curse #2 ($3.99) – Okay, so this is a werewolf book, but there’s a really homey element to it. It compares very favorably to “Revival”, if you need any other incentive to get on-board with this one.
Daredevil #36 ($2.99) – Pourin’ one out for Matt and Foggy. I know it’s getting relaunched, but this still feels big. That cover even gives me feels.
Total: $16.95

Alex + Ada #4 ($2.99) – Good lord I love this comic. Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn are telling a tale that feels pretty much created for me, and after that third issue’s ending, I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
B.P.R.D. #116 ($3.50) – “Reign of the Black Flame” continues, which means more James Harren art, more insight into what Zinco has been up to in NYC, and Agent Howards being a badass. ALL ABOARD!
The White Suits #1 ($3.99) – I love me some Frank Barbiere writing, but have you SEEN Toby Cypress’ art on this? Jeez louise. Gorgeous.
Amazing X-Men #4 ($3.99) – The spiritual successor to “Wolverine and the X-Men”, Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness are tearing shit up. That’s my critical opinion.
Quantum & Woody #8 ($3.99) – Ming Doyle’s last issue is also the last issue of what has been a hilariously awesome arc so far. Let’s do it big for Ming.
Total: $18.46 – heavy on the expensive, but also heavy on the quality

B.P.R.D. #116 ($3.50) – If you don’t know who James Harren is, shame on you. If you don’t get excited when James Harren draws “B.P.R.D.,” shame on you. If this issue doesn’t give you 5-10 moments of absolute astonishment, shame on you.
Skyman #2 ($2.99) – Josh Fialkov joining the Dark Horse Superheroes line is a good news for everyone.
The White Suits #1 ($3.99) – Toby Cypress is doing some incredible work on this book, written by “Five Ghosts” writer Frank Barbiere. This mini is looking fantastic – buy it now before it is the sell out issue of the month.
Ghosted #7 ($2.99) – A book that often gets left off my CSBC, but never off my reading list, is “Ghosted.” One of the most purely fun books I read each month, this book keeps bringing the goods.
New Warriors #1 ($3.99) – For some reason, despite not having an affinity for many of the characters, this book has piqued my interest. Plus, Yost + To are a formidable creative team, and seem to fit this team like a glove.
Total: $17.46

Morning Glories #37 ($3.50) – Hands down, one of the best issues of the series. Lots to talk about with this one.
Adventure Time #25 ($4.99) – I hope the fun will never end.
Nova #13 ($3.99) – Oh boy, it’s the Beta Ray Bill story! You know, the more I read of Gerry Duggan’s, the more I like. I’m really excited to see what he and Medina do here.
Continued belowUndertow #1 ($2.99) – The most disappointing part of this book is that it’s a mini. Honestly. It’s a helluva first issue ride.
Amazing X-Men #4 ($3.99) – Jason Aaron + Ed McGuinness + the X-Men = my jam, y’all.
Total: $19.46
