Comics Should Be Cheap! (3/16/2016)

Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.

That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:

Roche Limit: Monadic #1 ($3.99) – The final volume of the “Roche Limit” trilogy starts here. I’ve been a fan of Michael Moreci for a while and “Roche Limit” has really solidified that, as he’s told a story that spans multiple volumes, settings, and characters. There’s no telling what this last volume has in store, but I’m definitely reading it.

Legacy of Luther Strode #5 ($3.50) – I’m normally very picky about books coming out on time, but I can’t even be mad about this book being late. Tradd Moore continues to show that he’s probably one of the best artists in comics and that he has improved an insane amount in the few short years before this volume of “Luther Strode” and the first.

Total: $7.49. I’m sure there’s something else worth picking up, but I’m missing it altogether.

Matt Garcia’s Picks:

Steven Universe and the Crystal Gems ($3.99) – Steven’s back! With a lot more mythology from the show to cull from Josceline Fenton and Chrystin Garland have a lot more room to maneuver. This four-issue miniseries also looks like it’s launching into its own adventure, so that should be exciting, especially as we all wait for the show to return from hiatus.

Turncoat #1 ($3.99) – Promising to conjure darker sci-fi like Blade Runner, this new series from Alek Paknadel and Artyom Trakhanov literally embraces the noir. It’s apparently about a former resistence fighter who decides not to fight for the new human order or whatever and start her own private investigation agency. The previews look cool, so it might be interesting to dip into this one.

Monstress #4 ($3.99) – Have you been reading “Monstress”? You really should be reading “Monstress.”

Total: $11.97 – There’s also a ton of great trades out this week, including “Phonogram Vol. 3”, “Help Us! Great Warrior”, and “Archie”.
