Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:
Copperhead #11 ($3.99) – “Copperhead” was a great book when it first landed on the scene something like two years ago. While space westerns are far from new, “Copperhead” had a great vibe to it that made it something special. It’s finally back, though with Drew Moss as artist rather than original series artist Scott Godlewski. Whatever the reason for the artist change, I’m just hoping “Copperhead” manages to maintain the quality from before.
Grass Kings #1 ($3.99) – I was able to get a peek at this this weekend at ECCC and it looks fantastic. We all pretty much know that Matt Kindt is a fantastic writer and should be able to makethis story of three brothers barely holding together a weird, ad-hoc trailer park “kingdom” really special, but Tyler Jenkins and his watercolors are going to be the real star here. Seeing some of the original art for this book in person was amazing.
Green Valley #6 ($2.99) – The knights are learning more about the “wizard” plaguing the village and set out to slay a real dragon. Should be a fun issue.
Planetoid: Praxis #2 ($3.99) – Honestly, that first issue didn’t grab me quite like the original “Planetoid” did, but I’m still holding out hope that lightning will strike twice.
Total: $14.96

Brian’s Picks:
Shadows on the Grave #3 ($3.99) – Richard Corben’s black and white horror anthology is a thing of beauty, even if the ongoing “Denaeus” within isn’t really doing it for me.
Action Comics #975 ($2.99) – While I don’t exactly think it is working in the way DC hoped it would, I am intrigued by the ‘fake Clark Kent’ story that is the centerpiece of the “Superman Reborn” storyline.
Superwoman #8 ($2.99) – Phil Jimenez is leaving this book soon, which is both bogus and sad, so enjoy every page you can while he’s still on it.
Redline #1 ($3.99) – It isn’t often that a sci-fi series spends half of its solicitation making a shit joke. For that reason alone, I’m interested to check this book out. Plus, a pull quote from Adam Reed of Sealand 2021? Hey now.
Total: #13.96

Mark’s picks:
Yet again I’m blowing the budget. Sorry.
Nightlights ($18.99) — Technically this book came out in late February in the UK, but the US release is a nebulous date in March. This is the first book written by illustrator Lorena Alvarez, and I hope there will be many more to follow. This book is simply gorgeous. You’ll get sucked into Sandy’s world and linger on every page.
Harrow County #21 ($3.99) — A new arc begins, “Hedge Magic,” and boy am I not looking forward to this. Strange thing to say from a book on my recommendation list, but I really like the Emmy and Bernice friendship, and it looks like this arc is about to tear into it. So I’ll be picking this one up with a heavy sense of dread.
Total: $22.98. Sorry again.

Matthew’s Picks:
One-Punch Man v11 ($9.99) – The English translations of “One-Punch Man” have almost caught up in the collection form, and honestly, if you’re not reading “One-Punch Man”, you deserve one punch. Just one. I’m not really a violent person. But also, come on.
The Wicked + The Divine #27 ($3.99) – The only issue I’m really pumped on this week is the latest “WicDiv.” Things are getting quite tense, I’m afraid; I’d hate for you to miss out now.
Continued belowThe Flash #18 and Wonder Woman #18 ($2.99 each) – I still don’t read a lot of DC, but these books have been remarkably consistent. I’d lean on the side of keeping these in your pull, or adding them if they’re not there already.
Total: $19.96

Ken’s Picks:
Deathstroke #14 ($2.99): Still the Will and the Way for DC.
Justice League of America #2 ($2.99): The first issue had a load of good character moments attached to a kind of mediocre plot. I still have faith in Orlando and hoping this book is just going to take a few issues to get to full speed.
Inhumans vs. X-Men #6 ($3.99): The event book that no one asked for but happened to be infinitely better than the Other Marvel Event Book this year concludes.
Total: $9.97
