Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.

That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:

Snow Blind #4 ($3.99) – “Snow Blind” has been a pretty solid book so far and I’m really hoping this final issue pays off in a big way. If nothing else, those Tyler Jenkins are worth the cover price alone.

Limbo #5 ($2.99) – This has, hands down, been one of the most pleasant surprises in comics for me lately. Dan Watters and Caspar Wijngaard have created one of the most unique, both visually and conceptually, stories that I’ve seen in comics in a while. It’s a huge shame that the book isn’t getting more buzz, but I think it’s a pretty big indication that we’ll see more of both Dan and Caspar in the future.

Black Jack Ketchum #4 ($3.99) – This miniseries about mistaken identities in a weird version of the Old West that features supernatural beings and talking guns comes to a close with this issue. Another instance of creators I didn’t know too much about surprising me with how good a book can be.

Total: $10.97. A bit of a light week, so maybe get a trade or something that you’ve been wanting.

Matt Garcia’s Picks

Disney Princess #1 ($2.99) – A collection of strips and gags and little adventures featuring the epitome of modern princesses. Disney comics are hit-or-miss, but I’m interested in seeing what Amy Mebberson does with the material. Plus, I’m a huge advocate for kids’ comics, and the more that’re on the shelves, the better.

Harrow County #10 ($3.99) – As Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook get deeper into their story, they’ve been doing a wonderful job at expanding the mythology of Harrow County. Knowing about the “malevolent serpent sows madness and malice into the town’s residents” already sends shivers down the spine.

Adventure Time #50 ($4.99) – Four years. We’ve had this magnificent series for four years already, and while it took a bit for Christopher Hastings to settle in and give the book his own voice, it’s never stopped being entertaining. Ian McGinty takes over the art duties. More Ooo adventures, please.

Head Lopper #3 ($5.99) – The longer length gives MacLean a lot more time to create more sustained, creative action sequences. And if you haven’t been reading this, oboy have you been missing out.

Shutter #19 ($3.99) – Um, it’s “Shutter.” I’m never going to miss this one.

Total: $21.95. Okay, so I went a little over.
