Comics Should Be Cheap (7/6/2016)

Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.

That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:

Flintstones #1 ($3.99) – These DC Hanna-Barbera books have been one of two things so far: great or hot garbage. “Future Quest” was pretty dope, and the second issue of that is out this week as well. “Scooby Apocalypse” was tedious and overall not great, and “Wacky Raceland” was offensive on a couple of levels. So, at this point, my interest in these books is part nostalgia, part that anticipation when you think you’re about to see a car wreck or two people get into a fight. “Flintstones” could easily be as great as “Future Quest” and easily as bad as the other two, but I’m willing to check it out because I may as well spend $4 on something anyway.

Spread #14 ($3.99) – It’s been a while since the last issue, hasn’t it? At least it seems like it. Still, I’m interested enough to keep coming back and check out what else No is up to.

Roche Limit: Monadic #4 ($3.99) – This is the final issue of the final volume of Michael Moreci’s sci-fi trilogy. “Roche Limit” has been an interesting ride so far, with the different volumes feeling like homages to different sci-fi classics. With this last issue, the whole story has to come to an end and the Black Sun has to be stopped. I have a feeling reading all of this in one go, from start to finish, will make for a very interesting read indeed.

Total: $11.97. Ryan K Lindsay and Owen Gieni also have their “Negative Space” trade coming out this week, if you’ve got a spare $15 and want to check out a story about a suicidal writer trying to defeat an underwater race of monsters that feed on human despair.
