Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:
Birthright #18 ($2.99) – I’m always there for “Birthright” and this promises to be an interesting issues given that the solicit text says one of the Rhodes family undergoes a big transformation. Regardless of which family member it is, this could be a very big deal.
Black Monday Murders #1 ($4.99) – On one hand, this book is five bucks and Hickman isn’t exactly the most consistent creator when it comes to keeping a schedule. On the other hand, it’s Hickman writing a weird story where money literally equates to magic. Throw in some Tomm Coker art and “Black Monday Murders” is well worth checking out.
Blue Hour #1 ($3.99) – A scifi story about human colonists on an alien world is always something I’m up for checking out. This book from Action Lab seems like it could be the right kind of fun.
Total: $11.97

Matt Garcia’s Picks:
Superwoman #1 ($2.99) – I often talk about how DC doesn’t know what to do with Wonder Woman, but they might treat Lois Lane even worse. At least now she’s starring in her own title, though it’s disappointing it has to be some super-power book. Like, how interesting and cool would it be if DC tried something like “Gotham Central” again, except with Lois as the journalist hitting the streets, finding the truth? I mean, hopefully this won’t be bad and we at least get some Phil Jimenez art out of it.
NVRLAND #1 ($3.99) – In all honesty, I’m not sure what to think of this one. The modern-day retelling of Peter Pan set in the music rave scene concept could be either batshit crazy or batshit stupid. This one comes from 451 Media, who specialize in these interactive comic experiences. My interest in piqued.
Black Panther #5 ($3.99) – Looks like Chris Sprouse is handling art duties for the upcoming arc.
All Star Batman #1 ($4.99) – Scott Snyder and John Romita, Jr. deliver their much anticipated new Batman book.
Total: $15.96

Mark’s Picks:
Harrow County #15 ($3.99) — This arc has been digging further into the exact nature of what Emmy and Hester are, and this issue is a real pulling back of the curtain. It’s one of those big mythology-building moments that shows how much bigger everything is and drives home the stakes for future arcs. Plus it’s nice to get a sense of the rules of this world, and what life is like beyond the borders of Harrow County.
Total: $3.99. Nothing else really jumped out at me this week, so I’ll be looking at everyone else’s recommendations for books.

Ken’s Picks:
The Black Monday Murders ($4.99): New Jonathan Hickman is a glorious thing. Hopefully it maintains some semblance of a schedule.
All-Star Batman ($4.99): Bats and Two-Face on a road trip sounds absolutely bonkers. Let’s do it.
Total: $8.98
