Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Leo’s Picks:
Postal #15 ($3.99) – With things getting even more violent in Eden, this arc of “Postal” has been a lot of fun. Seeing Bryan Edward Hill delve into the Aryan Brotherhood, while still crafting a really enjoyable story has been nice to watch unfold and it’ll be interesting to see how the whole thing plays out and what it means for the town of Eden.
Cryptocracy #4 ($3.99) – I’m pretty much a sucker for stories that have to do with cryptids and “Cryptocracy” is giving a decent dose of that in the story about secret societies and the folks that are trying to bring them down.
Lake of Fire #2 ($3.99) – Being completely honest, the first issue of “Lake of Fire” wasn’t all I hoped it would be. Even with the extra pages, it felt like not a whole lot really happened. Still, the concept and the art are enough for me to check out another issue or two and see if it can grab my attention just a bit more.
Total: $11.97

Ken’s Picks:
Generation Zero #2 ($3.99): Last’s months debut warmed the part of my heart that longed for a “Runaways”-esque book. Van Lente and Portella have started a creepy and fun mystery that I can’t wait to see where it goes.
X-O Manowar #50 ($4.99): One book begins. Another ends. Aric of Dacia has been through quite the trek under Rob Venditti’s pen and it all comes to its conclusion this Wednesday. Constant relaunches make seeing a legit #50 an increasingly rare thing in superhero comics. So, hats off to that at the very least.
Descender #15 ($2.99): Last month’s issue was…not great, but I’m still on board this series and that cover is perhaps my favorite of these “Singularities” issues.
Ms. Marvel #11 ($3.99): “Civil War II” is a colossal train wreck, but there have been a couple series that have been able to make some good things out of it. “Ms. Marvel” is one such book.
Total: $12.96

Matt’s Picks:
Black Panther Epic Collection: Panther’s Rage ($34.99) – Much has been written about the Ta-Nehisi Coates run on “Black Panther,” but if you want the best Panther action, you need to check out this Don McGregor series from the ’70s. From “Jungle Action,” both parts of this book embody the best of superhero comics.
Total: $34.99. (Yeah, it’s more, but it’s worth it.)

Mark’s Picks:
Dear Creature ($22.99) — I was first introduced to Jonathan Case’s work with “The Creep,” a book that remains one of my all-time favorite comics to this day. Since then, I haven’t found a book he’s been involved in that I haven’t enjoyed. This one’s especially exciting since, like last year’s “The New Deal,” Case is both writer and artist.
This volume’s a reprint of the original 2011 paperback edition from Tor Books. I’ve had it sitting on my wishlist for a while, mainly because I was hoping for a better format; I’m a hardcover kind of person. Lucky me, Dark Horse decided to print one.
Total: $22.99. I swear, I really do try to keep these things under $20.
