Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.

That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Johnny’s Picks:

Gospel #4 ($3.99): Super impressed with Will Morris’ charming art throughout this fantasy miniseries, and I hope the writer/artist has more in store for these characters and this world after this volume finishes!

Storm & The Brotherhood of Mutants #1 ($3.99): I am so enamored with Al Ewing’s take on Storm in “X-Men: Red”, and now we get a double dose (maybe?) with the arrival of this book, as Ororo Munroe leads a new Brotherhood to stop the future destruction of Mars! I’ve fallen off most of the rest of the X line, but Ewing has a unique and exciting grasp on so many characters and plot threads I’m still hanging around to see what he comes up with.

Total: $7.98

Kate’s Picks:

Poison Ivy #9 ($3.99): It’s been cold here in the Northeast, so I need a little West Coast escapism, and with Harley and Ivy together, it’s going to be a lot of sun soaked fun.

Stranger Things Tales from Hawkins #1 ($3.99): It was only a matter of time before the world of Stranger Things got the Twilight Zone treatment. In fact, it seems like a it’s a match made in heaven. But it’s not easy recapturing that Twilight Zone magic in the right way.

Space Job #1 ($3.99): What if The Office but in space? This is another marriage that is going to need the right mix of ingredients in the right proportions to work, particularly with humor. But I’ve also grown to appreciate The Office, particularly the American version, more and more over the years (thanks to my sister), so I’m willing to give this a try.

Total: $11.97

Christopher’s Pick:

Stranger Things: Tales From Hawkins #1 ($3.99) – New year, new Stranger Things series from Dark Horse, with Jody Houser and Caio Filipe’s anthology seemingly taking the place of the previously announced but now MIA Dr. Brenner prequel. Anyway, who’s up for a Demogorgon hunt, where the hunters become the hunted?

Total: $3.99
