Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Mark’s Picks:
Fire Power #30 ($5.99): I’m way behind on this series, mainly because I wanted to marathon it when it was done. Also, is anyone else really curious about what Chris Samnee has got cooking next now that both “Fire Power” and “Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters” are done?
The Six Fingers #1 ($3.99): I got to read this and “The One Hand” #1 back to back and I’m already fascinated by how these two titles interact with each other. Dan Watters and Sumit Kumar are necessarily different from Ram V and Laurence Campbell, which is a big part of what makes these books so intriguing, offering a new point of view on the same world. Don’t miss this one.
The Bone Orchard Mythos: Tenement #9 ($3.99): Ever since issue #7, each new issue of ‘Tenement’ has been revealing so much about the interconnected titles of “The Bone Orchard Mythos” all the while raising even more questions. And with each new revelation, Andrea Sorrentino does something new with his art. Words don’t do it justice; you really need to see it.
Total: $13.97. I’m also picking up Keezy Young’s autobiographical “Sunflowers” and Cullen Bunn, Heath Amodio, and Andrea Mutti’s horror OGN “Long Haul,” which unfortunately break the $20 budget. I’ve also got my eye on “Lotus Land” #4.

Johnny’s Picks:
Ultimate Spider-Man #2 ($4.99): Really enjoyed this fresh take on our favorite wall-crawler in the first issue, and Marco Chechetto’s art assisted by Matt Wilson’s colors is just a sight to behold. I’m a known Hickman stan, so I was already a lock for this series, but I’m happy to report it’s quite good!
Project: Cryptic #6 ($4.99): I wasn’t familiar with this anthology series from Ahoy Comics until today, though by the stellar lineup they’ve had for past issues (Mark Russel! Liana Kangas! Gene Ha! Zander Cannon!) I *should* have been! This issue sees a couple of my favorite creators from “The Nib,” Matt Bors and Mattie Lubchansky spin some humorous tales about the Chupacabra and Bigfoot, respectively. Can’t wait!
Rise of the Powers of X #2 ($4.99): Is $4.99 the new $3.99??? Comics should be CHEAP, y’all! Soapbox aside, I can promise you I haven’t the slightest dang clue what’s going on with this series, but R.B. Silva’s art is fantastic. I’m willing to let Gillen’s story cook.
Critical Role: The Tales of Exandria – Artagan #2 ($3.99): Ok – phew! A book that’s still $3.99! I was getting worried. For all the Critters out there, I’m happy to report that most of the miniseries they’ve published have been pretty entertaining, thanks in no small part to the Critters (that’s Critical Role fans, for the uninitiated) they have helming each mini. This particular series is being written by Sam Maggs, who has long been part of the Critical Role community, and wears her love for the role-playing game actual-play series on her sleeve, and it shows with her deft characterization of Artagan, aka The Traveller, a cunning and quick-witted fae creature turned demi-god.
Total: $18.96
