Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Johnny’s Picks:
Ultimate X-Men #1 ($5.99): Six bucks is too much for a single issue comic. Saying that, the book’s creator Peach Momoko is generally worth the price of admission, so I will grumble and take my lumps in order to check out this sure-to-be entertaining comic mag.
Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #1 ($4.99): Get Ms. Marvel a new ongoing! Not more of these minis! The character deserves it! The writers Iman Villani and Sabir Pizada deserve it! The fans deserve it!
Kaya #16 ($3.99): Genuinely one of my favorite books on the stands. Wes Craig and his assembled team of artists (colorist Jason Wordie and letterer Tom Napolitano) are really giving this series their all, and the result is a wonderful most-ages adventure story in an immersive and richly drawn fantasy world. I want this series to go on forever.

Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #1 ($4.99): Like Johnny, I want a Ms. Marvel ongoing series and I WANT IT NOW, but I will take a new miniseries with Iman Villani and be happy.
Love Everlasting #13 ($3.99): More of a reminder to myself to check in and catch up on this series because I still remain intrigued by the concept.
Night People #1 ($4.99): Perhaps because I’m back rewatching True Blood (which I totally intend to do a We Want Comics on at some point), I’m wanting some sexy adult horror, and this new series from Oni Press seems to fit the bill.
