Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Kate’s Picks:
Ice Cream Man #29 ($3.99): It’s back! Get ready for more Twilight Zone covered in sprinkles, kicking off with the reading of someone’s last will and testament which I feel isn’t so final as it sounds.
Captain America #0 ($4.99): It’s two, two, TWO Captains America for the price of one! Sam and Steve teaming up to fight crime is either going to be a match made in heaven or a Avenger-filled nightmare.
Sham Comics Vol. 2 #1 ($4.00): Classic comics get an edgy MST3K treatment, and this one promises some extra tales of the supernatural.
Total: $12.98

Mark’s Picks:
Cat + Gamer – Volume 1 ($11.99): Admittedly it’s the logo that caught my attention here—it’s really well designed. As for the plot, Riko, an avid gamer, adopts a stray kitten, which she notes looks like it’s only a level one. In her own words, “I’m going max out this cat!” Sounds like fun to me.
Jonna and Unpossible Monsters #9 ($3.99): Chris and Laura Samnee’s series is an absolute joy, and with it returning for its final arc, there’s no way I’m going to miss it.
Black Hammer: Reborn #11 ($3.99): Lucy, Skulldigger, and Doctor Andromeda are pitted against alternate versions of themselves and other heroes and villains from all over the Para-verse. This is the penultimate episode, but honestly, it doesn’t feel like the next issue is going to be an ending. I expect a cliffhanger leading into “Black Hammer: The End.”
Total: $19.97.

Christopher’s Pick:
We Only Kill Each Other ($19.99): I don’t know if it lives up to its premise or not (not that my opinion of it matters, but I was avoiding comiXology well before Papa Bezos gutted it), but Stephanie Phillips and Peter Krause’s tale of Jewish-American gangsters teaming up against Nazis definitely feels like it ought to be saved (and savored) away from that digital landfill. (What a nice way to mark Passover too.)
Total: $19.99

Johnny’s Picks:
The Good Asian #10 (of 10) ($3.99) – I’ve plugged nearly every issue of this book since it arrived, and I couldn’t have been more happy with this tense noir that is wonderfully told under the guidance of the team of Pornesak Pichetshote and Alexandre Tefenkgi. Sure hope this creative team pairs together in the future!
Wolverine #20 ($3.99) – Adam Kubert drawing the X-Men again? Or at least our favorite hairy mutant Canucklehead? Yeah, count me in!
Total: $7.98 – but if you’ve got money to burn, the Inferno Hardcover drops from Marvel, Hickman’s wonderful finale to his tenure on the X-books!
