Buying comics can be an expensive hobby. A lot of fans simply can’t afford everything they’re interested in, due to rising prices and the over-saturation of the market with superhero titles.
That’s why we’re here. Every week, the Multiversity staff is asked “What would you buy this week if you couldn’t go over $20?” and shares their reasons why, in order to help others who might have similar tastes make their own decisions in buying comics on a budget. Be sure to leave your own picks in the comments!

Mark’s Picks:
Parasomnia: The Dreaming God #1 ($3.99): If you missed the first arc of Cullen Bunn and Anrdea Mutti’s “Parasomnia,” make sure you pick it up before launching into this new arc—each arc of this series plays with a new genre, and to appreciate the way it shifts and changes, you need to see where it’s been already.
Tales from Harrow County: Lost Ones #4 ($3.99): Cullen Bunn and Emily Schnall wrap up their latest arc of “Tales from Harrow County,” and in the process rip the series open. Big things are clearly brewing and I can’t wait to see what they’re got in store for us next. Don’t miss this one.
Fire Power #23 ($3.99): I was rather looking forward to “Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters” #11 coming out this week so I could get a double hit of Chris Sanmee brilliance, but sadly it’s been delayed till September. I guess I’ll have to make myself content with just the one Samnee book. Oh, how I suffer!
The Silver Coin #13 ($3.99): Johnnie Christmas joins Michael Walsh on the latest issue of “The Silver Coin.” This remains a fascinating project to me, as guest writers cycle through, and Walsh remains the constant, and it draws attention to how much an artist defines a comic.
Total: $15.96. If I could go over, I’d pick up “Flavor Girls” #2 as well.

Johnny’s Picks:
Critical Role: The Might Nein Origins – Yasha Nydoorin HC ($17.99): I’m a huge fan of the Critical Role universe, and especially the characters from the second campaign, like Yasha here. While writer Cecil Castellucci is firmly at the wheel of this graphic novel, I think it’s pretty great that Yasha creator/portrayer Ashley Johnson is also credited as writer, along with world creator Matt Mercer. Adding artist Will Kirkby (whose style is dynamic and luscious and complex) to the mix and I think I’m really going to enjoy this volume in the series.
Justice Warriors #3 ($4.99): I want this to be a weekly book. Absolutely in love with it. Smart, silly, and oh-so-funny. I want all my satire to look like this.
Total: $22.98 – I was WAY under last week, though!

Kate’s Picks:
Trve Kvit #1 ($3.99): What if Bob’s Burgers met Ocean’s Eleven met Supernatural and a bit of Clerks? The result would probably be this series, a tale of a man who clearly was supposed to be at his burger joint job on the day he planned a heist. The part that went wrong was when a cult got involved.
Shirtless Bear Fighter Vol. 2 #1 ($3.99): It’s back and it’s full of flapjacks and better than ever. What else needs to be said?
Chilling Adventures Presents Jinx’s Grim Fairy Tales #1 ($3.99): Ever have that one babysitter growing up that let you watch the scary movie? That’s Jinx. Except her scary book of fairy tales is going to teach some lessons.
Heart Eyes #1 ($4.99): Nothing like a good end of days love story to distract you when the world starts actually burning.
Total: $16.96
