NEW AVENGERS #14
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Pencils & Cover by MIKE DEODATO
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN
It won’t take some of the Avengers to fight the madness of Fear Itself it will take ALL OF THEM!! The New Avengers and Avengers join forces in the face of true fear! And who will join the New Avengers for the first time EVER? Stay tuned, True Believer! This is a can’t-miss Avengers event!

32 PGS./Rated A …$3.99
I love Avengers roster shake-ups. Every time the roster gets shaken up this book goes through a really exciting period of time. First you had the Avenger’s that added Wolverine and Spidey, then you had the next incarnation that some deemed more like the Defenders than the Avengers. What will we get this time? No clue, but in Bendis I trust.
American Panther

FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

You’ve read about it, and may have even argued about it…but here it is: The debut of the American Panther! What does his arrival mean to Hell’s Kitchen? Find out in the series that Aint It Cool News hails as “one of the best titles Marvel is putting out!”
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99
Not sure if I will read this book. To be honest, it isn’t very likely. I will say this though…if I do end up reading this book, it’s because that American Panther costume is awesome. I don’t care what any of the trolls out there say. That suit, as produced by the incredibly talented Francesco Francavilla, is soooooo cool.
Renumber? Why not! This is Marvel, you know.

32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
Captain America relaunches just a couple of years after returning to its original numbering. Not a fan of the renumbering tactic as I feel it is to the 00’s as holofoil was to the 90’s. Straight gimmick. Then, to get real 90’s, we’ve got 32 variants including a movie variant cover. What, couldn’t throw in a polybagged version as well?

HOLY SHIT! WHAT?! AWESOME! This sounds insane. Just what I would expect from one of the best books on the market thanks to Rick Remender’s lethal literary awesomeness. I really think we’re in for a treat with this issue.

He’s the best there is at what he does – and Wolverine’s not so bad, either. Now, writer Jason Aaron’s (PUNISHERMAX, Scalped) entire character-defining run leading to “Wolverine Goes to Hell” is collected in one massive, bone-shattering volume. Joined by some of comics’ top artists, Aaron pits Wolverine against a platoon of Adamantium-enhanced mercenaries, super-powered kung-fu gangsters, time-traveling reanimated killers and – in a brutal, no-holds-barred battle that may destroy them both – Mystique.
Collecting WOLVERINE (2003) #56 and #62-65; WOLVERINE: MANIFEST DESTINY #1-4; WOLVERINE: WEAPON X #1-16; DARK REIGN: THE LIST – WOLVERINE; and material from WOLVERINE (2003) #73-74, DARK X-MEN: THE BEGINNING #3 and WOLVERINE (1988) #175.
688 PGS./Parental Advisory…$99.99
Yes please! Not even kidding. Aaron has really mastered the character in a way that hasn’t really been seen since Chris Claremont and Larry Hama, in my opinion. This will be a lot of fun to read. The price is a big ouch though. Not as bad as the next beast on this list, but still mighty pricey.

704 PGS./Rated A…$125.00

“Awwww yeah!” & “Holy shit, expensive!”
Those were my initial reactions to this. On one hand this is an amazing collection, which I am surprised hasn’t happened yet; on the other hand there is no way I will afford this anytime in the near or distant future. So this is kind of a bittersweet solicitation. For those that can afford it I highly recommended you do so.
Lastly, Matchoo the Editor has decided to toss his two cents in as well…
Marvel Is Not Afraid Of Sales
Here’s a question for you. How many Fear Itself tie-ins are there going to be in July 2011 from Marvel Comics? The answer: 27. Seriously. It’s a huge mega event, what did you expect? Of course it’s going to hit most of Marvel’s titles. But what’s interesting about July is that Marvel has introduced a bunch of brand new titles with Fear Itself for the purposes of the event. Uncanny X-Force, Wolverine, Deadpool, Spider-Man and FF are not just going to tie into the event through the main book but rather get additional books to tell side stories by different writers. And the most telling of the various solicits? Fear Itself: FF #1, written by Cullen Bunn and featuring a blacked out character on the cover whose name is XXX XXXXX. Why is that noteworthy? Because that “beloved” character also appears on the cover of New Avengers, Fear Itself: Spider-Man, and Hulk (with a hammer that repeatedly changes sizes). GEE! Wonder who that character is?
It should also be noted that Juggernaut appears on 4 covers himself. Yeesh! Are none of the other Worthy that worth writing?
There you have it. This is what excites me, or at least stuck out to me from Marvel this month. Don’t forget to see Matt’s counterpart to this column as he takes a look at the DC solicitations for July 2011. Then, we’ll see ya next month!
