Spring is a time of rebirth and growth, which I suppose is why we have so many new series and mini-series beginning in March. But there’s no shortage of great comics to look forward to, so let’s skip the formalities and see all that Marvel has in store for us in March 2020.

10. Magnets, How Do They Work?

Is there a more compelling “X-Men” character than Magneto? He’s been a villain, a mentor, and everything in-between. Now with the X-Men status quo shake up that is Krakoa, Magneto has a new role to serve. It will be great to get a look at his new life and position, as well as how he continues to be quintessentially Magneto in spite of it all. With Jonathan Hickman penning Magneto and Ben Oliver’s artwork, we have everything to look forward to.

X-Men: Giant-Size – Magneto #1
Written by Jonathan Hickman
Illustrated by Ben Oliver
Cover by Ben Oliver
Variant cover by Esad Ribic

• HICKMAN & OLIVER MASTER MAGNETISM!
• Jonathan Hickman continues his one-shots showcasing some of Marvel’s best artists! This time, he teams with Ben Oliver (ULTIMATE X-MEN, THUNDERBOLTS) to bring a tale of Krakoan Ambassador and Master of Magnetism, Magneto! Krakoa may be only for mutants, but mutants still need to deal with the human world around them. Magneto has a plan for that.
• 40 PGS./ONE SHOT/Rated T+ …$4.99

9. Revenging on the Avenging

The Avengers have a lot of enemies, it’s true. Typically villains, but even other super-teams. It’s always entertaining when antagonists team up to give our heroes a real run for their money, and Jason Aaron’s run has introduced plenty of great foes for them. How will the Avengers face these threats at once? However they do it, it’s bound to be a blast.

Avengers #32

• EARTH’S MIGHTIEST VILLAINS!
• What do the King of Atlantis, the Lord of the Vampires, the deposed duke of Hell, a mysterious Russian assassin and the secret boss of Washington, D.C.’s greatest super-team have in common? They all really hate the Avengers. And so there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth’s mightiest villains found themselves united against a common threat.
• 32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

8. Part Spider, All Woman

Spider-Woman has had a few good runs, but how long they last can vary. Now we’ve got a new ongoing, with a new suit, new challenges, and plentiful explosions. It sounds like Karla Pacheco has a lot planned for her, and with all these variant covers, it seems Marvel is excited for it too. Also, credit to the solicit for assuring us she’s not a Skrull; it’s been years since “Secret Invasion” and she still hasn’t lived it down.

Spider-Woman #1

Illustrated by Pere Perez
Cover by Junggeun Yoon
Variant covers by Junggeun Yoon, Artgerm, Kaare Andrews, Ron lim, Carmine Infantino, Peach Momoko, J. Scott Campbell, Todd Nauck, Bruce Timm, Mr. Garcin, and Chip Kidd

• Jessica Drew hasn’t been feeling like herself lately (she’s not a Skrull, we promise). When the angry, irritable, and unwell Spider-Woman takes a simple security gig to help get back on her feet, she finds herself besieged by unknown forces out to destroy everything around her. What’s wrong with Jessica? Just how DID she get this job? And who are these violent lunatics who keep trying to blow her up? WHO CARES? Does Spider-Woman have someone to punch? THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS.
• An explosive new series that pushes Spider-Woman into new heights of action and adventure from the mad minds of Karla Pacheco and Pere Pérez, this is the Spider-Woman book you’ve been waiting for!
• 40 PGS./Rated T+ …$4.99

7. Hellion to Pay

Krakoa has opened its doors to all mutants. The thing is… there’s a lot of them who’ve used their powers for evil. Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse are the big ones, sure, but not nearly the only ones. So what will happen with them? Looks like Sinister is starting his own team of Hellions, including former antagonists and heroes. Whether they go anti-hero or just fight for themselves, this ought to be a lot of fun.

Under Sinister’s direction, they are sure to become productive members of mutant society. 6. Hulk Up?

“Immortal Hulk” is a gripping, intense comic that adds new levels of horror to the Hulk and his mythos. This celebratory issue is, well, look at the solicit for yourself. Something is wrong, and whatever it is, I can’t wait to see what. Simulacrums? The Thoughtful Man? And of course, we have Roxxon’s new Hulk knock-off to contend with as well. This comic just keeps getting better.

5. The Empyre Strikes?

Remember the Kree/Skrull War? Well, it never really ends. Things are getting shaken up in “Incoming,” and that will lead to the new “Empyre.” If that’s not enough, we’ll get to return to the family from “Meet the Skrulls” to see how they’re all faring and see how the Skrulls tend to view their eternal conflict with the Kree. It’s almost too much to look forward to from a single book.

And out in the cold on Earth, the Warner family (MEET THE SKRULLS) need to work out what has happened and what it means for the future of their family and their race! And that means educating their kids on just how the Kree and the Skrulls first went to war!
• 40 PGS./ONE SHOT/Rated T …$4.99

4. Pepper to the Rescue

People have been wanting to see Pepper don the Rescue armor again, especially after its appearance in Avengers: Endgame. While Pepper’s current role in Tony Stark’s life is significantly different between the movies and comics, when has that ever stopped comics from giving the fans what they want? So Pepper gets a new two-issue mini-series as Rescue, dealing with all the craziness in the new “Iron Man” event. And that’s great in my book.

2020 Rescue #1
Written by Dana Schwartz
Illustrated by Jacen Burrows
Cover by Paco Medina
Variant cover by Jen Bartel

• Pepper Potts moved on from Tony Stark. She’s getting her life together, finding her place in the world.
• Unfortunately, that’s exactly when Tony Stark decides it’s time for a full-tilt, full-blown meltdown. And if Pepper can’t suit up and save the day, Tony is toast.
• 32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

3. Wasted on the Young

Remember the time the New Warriors got killed in a suburban explosion, then the super hero Civil War began? Well, it looks like something similar is going to happen. This time, instead of registration, it’s simply outlawing all teen heroes. That includes pretty much all of the Champions, half of the Runaways, and many more individual teen heroes.

Continued below

Of course, there are many questions about this. How will heroes who started in their teens respond? Will this divide the heroes again like “Civil War” did? There are several different ways that this can go, and while the parallels to “Civil War” have me concerned, I trust this team of creators to give us a worthwhile comic.

2. Class is in Session

Are you disillusioned with Hogwarts after recent comments by Rowling, but still want to find a magical school? Perhaps “Strange Academy” will fill that magical gap in your heart. With young magic users from across the Marvel universe learning under the tutelage of heroes like Scarlet Witch and Brother Voodoo, this sounds like the kind of ridiculous fun we can only get from Skottie Young. Add Humberto Ramos backing him up as the artist and there’s no way we can miss this.

But with all the new magical threats, is it too late?!
• 40 PGS./Rated T …$4.99

1. Truly a Marvel

Anyone who loves Marvel comics needs to read “Marvels.” But that was only the first step in Alex Ross’s plan. Now we’re getting a full anthology of comics that look at the Marvel universe through a normal person’s eyes. To see how the everyday person sees and reacts to the massive events of the comic world is always engaging and interesting, especially when it features the amazingly realistic art of Alex Ross or the equally impressive designs of his contemporaries. There are several “Marvels Snapshot” books coming out alongside this one, and each of them is worthy of checking out, so the best way to celebrate them all is with the top spot in this list.

Marvel #1
Written by Alex Ross, Kurt Busiek, Steve Darnall, and Sajan Saini
Illustrated by Alex Ross, Steve Rude, and Frank Espinosa
Cover by Alex Ross
Variant cover by Steve Rude

• Thirty years ago, Alex Ross had a vision of a new series showing the Marvel heroes in a way they’d never been seen before. The first realization of that idea became the blockbuster MARVELS — but today Alex finally brings about his original vision: An anthology of stories by unique, exceptional talents, many of whom are doing Marvel characters for the very first time. Over this showcase series you’ll see work by such artists as Adam Hughes, Bill Sienkiewicz, Dan Brereton and more, linked together by an overarching story by Alex and Steve Darnall.
• This inaugural issue kicks it all off with superstar artists Frank Espinosa (Rocketo, Looney Tunes) telling an unusual Spider-Man story and Steve Rude (Nexus), teaming up with Kurt Busiek (Marvels, Avengers) for an Avengers story, framed by Alex and Steve Darnall (Uncle Sam, Marvels) presenting a tale of the dread dreamland Nightmare, and his threat to the entire Marvel Universe…and possibly beyond.
• A once-in-a-lifetime assemblage of talent — you won’t want to miss a single page!
