Soliciting Multiversity returns for the month of May!
For the first part in our look at solicits, we focus our magnifying glass on Dark Horse Comics and a few of the exciting upcoming releases. Check out Dark Horse’s full May solicits here and hop behind the cut to see what tickles our fancy.
Gage and Samnee Team-Up Part Deux
Rebekah Isaacs is off for an Angel and Faith story, but let it not be said that Dark Horse isn’t repeatedly finding great artists to fill in. This story sees former-Gage collaborator Chris Samnee (from their Vertigo graphic novel Area 10), who — what with that nifty Daredevil announcement — is clearly so hot right now.
But hey, you can never go wrong with more Samnee! Never.
Mo’ BPRD, Mo’ Problems
I mean that, of course, in the most polite way imaginable.
May sees the beginning of a new Mignola, Arcudi and Crook BPRD joint The Devil’s Engine, picking up the loose threads from Gods and the return of Devon, while Mignola, Allie and Fiumara team-up for the Transformation of J. H. O’Donnell one-shot, featuring the “return” of Hellboy in a story set twenty-four years ago.
I know I just got caught up with BPRD and I’ve said this all before, but HOT DAMN, it is a great time to be a fan of the Mignolaverse.
Blacksad Comes To The States Again Finally
I got pretty damn excited about this back when it was announced earlier this month, but Blacksad‘s fourth volume finally hitting the states is an amazing thing, and definitely something to get excited about. I mean, it was originally released in 2010 overseas, and it’s 2012 now! Why does Europe get all the cool cat-noir comics?
Of course, despite being in the May solicits, this book is actually slated for release in July. But hey, baby steps, right?
James Harren Joins Conan
I’ll be honest — I am only buying Conan the Barbarian because of Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan. That is the sole motivation I have, and I don’t think I’m alone. I typically follow creators over characters, and Conan has never been a character that appealed to me. With that in mind, it makes me sad that Becky Cloonan is taking a short break, because call me selfish but what the world needs now is more Cloonan vikings.
Then again, do you know what James Harren’s art looks like? Like this:
Yeah, I think we’re gonna be alright. (For more Harren, check out his DeviantArt)
Dark Horse Presents: Still Awesome
Look, I’ve done this spiel so many times now about how awesome Dark Horse Presents is and all the cool things you can find in it. There is no purpose in me doing so again.
Instead, here is the solicit for Dark Horse Presents #12:

Wil Wheaton Is A Fawkes
Everyone loves puns, right?
Anyway, while I haven’t watched the fifth season of the Guild, I quite enjoyed the first four and all the related comics. I’ve been collecting since the original mini (and you can find a pullquote from yours truly on the trade of the first volume!), and I am fairly excited to add a one-shot about Wil Wheaton’s character Fawkes into my collection.
Written by Felicia Day and Wheaton, illustrated by Jamie McKelvie and featuring covers by Matt Wilson and Paul Duffield with a variant by Emma Rios (pictured here!), I don’t mind re-stating my excitement.
Oh, and while we’re on the subject, the second collection of the Guild hits in July, with art by folks like Kristian Donaldson and Becky Cloonan! The Tink story is particularly amazing for all you videogame nerds.
If I Didn’t Already Own The Singles I Would Go Nuts For This Book Of The Month: Hellboy Library Volume 5
There isn’t too much more to say about this, now is there?
Collecting Darkness Calls and the Wild Hunt, the first two parts of the Hellboy trilogy that closes off the story Mike Mignola started in the late 90’s, everyone should be reading Hellboy. If you haven’t been, start hunting down those previous library editions now. They’re gorgeous
BUY THE BURNING HAND OF JUSTICE
Again, an item that needs very little discussion. Lobster Johnson — if you’re not buying it, I don’t think we need to be friends.
MIND MGMT Begins, And You Have No Choice But To Consume
Described as “Akira meets Heart of Darkness by way of 100 Bullets“, I literally don’t know what more needs to be said about this new ongoing to get you excited. There should be nothing else needed.
Here’s the solicit text to get you a bit more pumped, though:
Reporting on a commercial flight where everyone aboard lost their memories, a young journalist stumbles onto a much bigger story, the top-secret Mind Management program. Her ensuing journey involves weaponized psychics, hypnotic advertising, talking dolphins, and seemingly immortal pursuers, as she attempts to find the flight’s missing passenger, the man who was Mind MGMT’s greatest success–and its most devastating failure. But in a world where people can rewrite reality itself, can she trust anything she sees?
Just do yourself a favor and get your pre-order in now before it’s too late and you’re missing out on what we can only assume will be one of the best new creator-owned ongoings of this year. High praise for a comic I’ve never seen, let alone read, but I’m sticking by those words.
Resident Alien Begins! Finally!
I’ve been spouting the praises of this story for some time now, so I’m not going to beat the horse raw. All I’ll say is this: pre-order Resident Alien #1 now, pick up Resident Alien #0 in April, thank me later.
