With Marvel NOW! launching at the house of ideas, DC is doing some world-building, playing some recreational sports, and dropping ends of miniseries for some reason.
“Before Watchmen” has been an interesting experiment in bad ideas done both well and poorly. But, hands down, the worst has been “Nite Owl.” Good grief, has this been a train wreck. November brings a thankful close to “Nite Owl,” and brings us closer to being able to put this whole experiment in nostalgic pillaging behind us.
I read a lot of solicits, but this one may take the cake for my favorite/the dumbest in recent memory:
– The secret history of The New 52 is told here — with bullets!
Say no more!
There were a few odd discrepancies this month with books that were expected to be solicited and those that actually were. The most egregious of these was “Phantom Lady” #4 which isn’t anywhere to be found. October’s solicits list #3 as “3 of 4,” and yet here we are, with the title not showing up. I emailed DC about this and another discrepancy, and they said they would get back to me with information about “Phantom Lady.” That was a week ago, and I’m still waiting.
The other issue I sought answers to was: what happened to National Comics? DC was more direct with this query, and said, and I quote: “The National Comics run of one-shots has indeed ended.”
So, whether or not another batch of one-shots is planned for the future, for now, this series is over and done with. Farewell, sweet prince; we barely knew ye.
All of the non-“Action Comics” Super books are crossing over this month, with a new villain called H’el. He looks suspiciously like New 52 Bizarro to me, and if that is the case, I’ll be in the corner crying. Me hate Bizarro never.
The landscape of Vertigo will be quite different in 2013, with “Sweet Tooth,” “Scalped,” and “iZombie,” all gone, and without a large batch of new titles to take their places just yet. Before we say farewell to our beloved “Sweet Tooth,” let’s enjoy these last few issues for what they are certain to be: the close of an undeniably great comic.
Whoops, sorry Greg Capullo, here is the Joker that you were trying to keep from us. I actually feel for Capullo here – what happened to the days of “censored” covers to avoid spoilers? Clearly, the Joker has been a festering storyline in the Bat-books, and his reveal deserved a better fate than a cover to an issue due six weeks after his return to comics.
This cover is yet another gorgeous “Batwoman” piece, and the Bat/Wonder team up has a ton of potential. I wonder if they ever considered letting Catwoman in on the fun. Or maybe the Element Woman? The late Superwoman?
This awesomely creepy cover is the best of the batch for the “Rise of the Third Army” crossover running through the Green Lantern books. While I was hoping the crossover would only be a month long, all of these covers hint at interesting things to come from the story, so let’s hope this is more ‘Sinestro Corps War’ and less ‘Blackest Night.’
How could I possibly top that image?
