Alright, folks: we’ve covered Dark Horse, Marvel and DC — now it’s time to get into the meat and bones of the upcoming Image solicits. You’ve seen the rest, now see the best! (I swear we’re not a biased source. Honest.)
For the full Image solicits for November, be sure to check out Comic Book Resources.
All New #1’s
Not to be outdone by a certain other publisher with a bevy of new #1’s for you, Image will be offering you 8 new titles, 3 of which are continuations of other books. Here are the brand new titles:
- Clone #1, by David Schulner, Juan Jose Ryp and Felix Serrano
- Great Pacific #1, by Joe Harris and Martin Morazzo
- Comeback #1, by Ed Brisson and Michael Walsh
- Nowhere Men #1, by Eric Stephenson, Nate Bellegarde and Jordie Bellaire
- Storm Dogs #1 by David Hine, Doug Braithwaite and Ulises Arreola
As a note, only “Clone,” “Great Pacific” and “Nowhere Men” aren’t listed as “1 (of X).” Might want to get those pre-orders in for those three early, if they pique your interest, eh?
Here are the continuations of previously released titles:
- Perhapnauts: Danger Down Under! by Todd Dezago and Craig Rousseau
- Where Is Jake Ellis? by Nate Edmondson and Tonci Zonjic
- Witch Doctor: Mal Practice, by Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner
I’m honestly not familiar with “Perhapnauts,” but I can confirm volume 1 of both “Jake Ellis” and “Witch Doctor” are pretty great. Be sure to check these out if you haven’t already.
Spawn Keeps Up The Awesome
It has admittedly been a long while since I’ve read “Spawn.” I read it a lot as a kid, but dropped it for some reason I can’t remember, only to come back when Todd McFarlane returned to replace Al Simmons and “Image United” was supposedly going to be a thing that was going to have a finale. Since then, I haven’t read too much — but I have been loving the solicits. Now it looks like “Spawn” is going to not only feature a “Watchmen” lampoon in the latest famous cover lampoon, but it is also going to get incredibly modern with a story whose outcome revolves around the results of the election.
Don’t believe me? Read this solicit:

“DE-PROGRAMMED,” Part One
MILESTONE 225th issue! AND…FOR THE FIRST TIME…the results of a Presidential Election will directly affect the events to come.
On November 6th, the citizens of the United States of America will select their Commander In Chief. The winner, and his goals and agendas, will play a role in shaping the next stage in Jim Downing’s evolution.
Meanwhile…Jim’s long search for answers about his past comes to an end in this two-part story, featuring the return of fan-favorite villain, Jason Wynn.
Wynn, the master puppeteer whose manipulations led to Al Simmons’ original fall from grace, now lays bare the full truth regarding Jim’s role in “The Project.” But what are Wynn’s true intentions? And what ramifications do they have on global events.
RETAILERS: This issue contains two alternate endings – one featuring Barack Obama, the other Mitt Romney. Both are available to order using the unique product codes listed in the order form.
I’d imagine that there will simply be an interchangeable sinister moment for the president’s involvement in whatever is going on. Even so, I’m infinitely amused.
The Return of the Couriers
This one is unexpected. Reprinting some of Brian Wood’s earlier works with Rob G and Bret Weldele, “The Couriers Complete Collection” is coming out to give you “Couriers” vol. 1-3 and “Couscous Express,” the prequel series. A fun, fantastic and over the top series, it’s kind of hard to explain what it’s about. I’ll say this though: in the first volume, there is a lot of hyperviolence and roller skating, all because of some music. So it’s kind of like that.
But still, AiT/Planet Lar comics coming to Image is not a huge surprise. It is a little surprising for “the Couriers” to end up at Image over Dark Horse after Dark Horse put out that fantastic “Channel Zero” collection (originally on Image!), but exciting none the less. If you’ve never purchased the book before, now’s the time.
Continued belowThe Return of Scene of the Crime
Now, this one’s a bit more interesting: “Scene of the Crime” was originally a 4-issue Vertigo title that released back in the late 90’s and was collected in May 2000. Now, the story — which marks the first collaboration between Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark — is being refurbished for a deluxe hardcover through Image. It’s a dark little noir book, short but gritty, and is a great prelude to all the work Brubaker and Philips eventually did with “Criminals.” It’s interesting to see a book leave the vaults of Vertigo and end up at a different publisher, though, especially since DC launched an initiative that reprinted things like “Jonny Double” (first collab between Azzarello and Risso), “My Faith in Frankie” and “Finals.” That seemed like a perfect opportunity to reprint that, no?
Now, you may be able to get the current trade (I’ve seen it in a store or two), but you can also hold out for the reprint. The conceivable catch is that it’s $24.99 for what was originally a $10 comic total, but regardless it’s a good read.
Enormous Is Back, And Harder Than Ever
Well this is fun: “Enormous,” written by one of our favorite people ever Tim Daniel and art by the incomparable Mehdi Cheggour, is coming back in a big hardcover edition. It’ll contain the original story in a book just as big as the original, but now it’ll be even tougher to get onto your shelf! You’ve got to love a comic that puts up a fight. I’m not sure what else will be contained within this book, but the solicit mentions creature concepts and character designs, as well as an unpublished prequel entitled “It’s the Little Things” (ha ha!), amongst others.
The important thing to note here is that the book is being advanced solicited for a December release. What this means is, if you missed out on “Enormous” for whatever reason and you want this big-ass re-release, go to your retailer today and ask them to pre-order it. Get your pre-orders in fast and early, and reap the benefits in December.
Robert Kirkman Kills Everyone
It’s been teased all last week with the “Death Of…” teasers, but with “Invincible” #97 apparently Mark comes back in his blue costume and then everyone dies.
Personally? I don’t think Kirkman’s going to do it. I think Ottley will happily draw blood all over the place, but if Kirkman couldn’t kill Carl after half his face was blown off, I’m not so sure he would be willing to kill Mark Grayson. He’s also already “killed” Atom Eve and Oliver before, and both managed to come back. Killing everyone now? I DON’T THINK YOU’VE GOT IT IN YOU, MR. KIRKMAN. CHALLENGE ISSUED.
But, hey, if he actually does it? Well, that would make “Invincible” stand quite curiously in contrast to both Marvel NOW! and the New 52, now wouldn’t it? Only time will tell.
And A Whole Lot More
Every month it gets a bit difficult for me to spotlight some of the older books. Image puts out a lot of books that I love and spotlights a lot of creators whose work I highly enjoy. I’m excited for the latest issues of books like “Danger Club,” “Glory” and “Manhattan Projects.” I’m stoked to read the second entries into the new reign of “Creator Owned Heroes” and books like “Multiple Warheads” and “Bedlam,” or the third issue of “Happy!” I’m amped just to buy “Hoax Hunters” #5 with the above 80’s homage by (Supa)Joe Eisma.
Oh, and how about the return of “SAGA.” Yeah. You guys excited about that? Yeah you are. You want it, and you want it bad.
But — … wait. Waaaaittt a minute. Something’s wrong. Something’ missing. …
WHERE’S MY MORNING GLORIES?
I swear to god, if I have to go all Casey and burn something down…
I’m just kidding. If I had to guess, books like “Morning Glories,” “Haunt” and “Hell Yeah” don’t have solicits because of previous delays, which means there would be a new issue in November — just a pre-solicited one (say, from October). Even so. I need my comic fix, injected directly into my veins.
