This month the folks at 2000 AD will be launching a new series that’s set in the world of their long-running Rogue Trooper. Written by Gordon Rennie (Dept. of Monsterology) with art by Simon Coleby (The Royals), Jaegir is the story of Kapitan-Inspector Atalia Jaegir, who serves in the Nordland State Security Police hunting down war criminals who have escaped justice.

The quote is fairly ominous, considering what we know about our titular character. If you haven’t read any Rogue Trooper, the ‘Norts’ were the pseudo-Nazis in the original strip, who fought against the ‘Southers’ on Nu-Earth. This is exactly my favorite type of 2000 AD story: readers are shown a world of corrupt power while exploring the characters at the center of everything that’s wrong. The universe Rogue Trooper takes place in is every bit as fertile as that of Judge Dredd and there is a lot of space to tell some very interesting stories. So between this and the upcoming Rogue Trooper releases IDW has in the hopper, there’s going to be plenty for readers to explore.
Jaegir begins in 2000 AD Prog 1874 as part of an entire issue of first chapters. So if you’ve ever wanted to start reading 2000 AD, now would be the time!
