The Women of Marvel panel today confirmed a couple of things that were leaked from the retailers event earlier this weekend. A new Blade series will be launched in October, written by Tim Seeley with art by Logan Faerber. In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Seeley revealed that the series will focus on Blade and his longlost daughter Fallon Grey. The series will explore their antagonistic relationship and presumably feature a lot of vampire killing. Seeley has a lot of experience writing horror titles. He’s currently writing his creator owned series “Revival” and he’s probably most well known as one of the creators of “Hack/Slash”. This new Blade series feels like it’ll be a Marvel-lite version of “Hack/Slash” which isn’t entirely a bad thing. This is a really intriguing concept that features a woman of color in a lead role, which is something comics could do with more of. Something worth noting, Ron Wimberly had a pitch for the character last year but I’m not entirely sure if that went directly to Marvel or not. Fallon’s costume design, while not a huge problem is still a little odd. She’s vampire hunting but can’t wear pants?
“The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” is also making its way to the All-New, All Different Marvel lineup. Ryan North and Erica Henderson will relaunch the series as a new volume. Squirrel Girl will find herself having to balance being an Avenger with being a college student and worry not, Nancy and Tippy Toe are coming back too. “The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” was always expected to come back during the relaunch but nothing is ever guaranteed so there was concern from fans. The creative team was also silent and Henderson was announced as the “Jughead” artist, which led fans to speculate. This series, along with “Howard the Duck” is one of the funniest books in comics right now and if you haven’t read it yet, you must pick it up when it relaunches.
