After releasing a teaser image yesterday, Marvel has officially announced “Asgardians of the Galaxy,” a relaunch of “Guardians of the Galaxy” that’s spinning out of the upcoming “Infinity Wars” event. The series, written by Cullen Bunn (“The Damned,” “Harrow County”) with artist Matteo Lolli (“Deadpool”), will follow the team of Angela, Valkyrie, Thunderstrike, Throg, Skurge, and the Destroyer (with an unknown pilot) as they “protect the Marvel Universe from intergalactic threats.”

The only character with previous ties to the Guardians of the Galaxy is Angela, who has been an on-again, off-again member since she was brought in to the Marvel Universe during 2013’s “Age of Ultron” event.

There are few details at this time about the title, other than Lolli confirming it will be a miniseries, and Marvel’s description of the characters:

ANGELA, the not-so-beloved half-sister of Thor.

The hotheaded VALKYRIE – and the human who shares her form, Annabelle Riggs.

SKURGE the EXECUTIONER, freshly returned from Hel.

THROG, the mightiest frog of thunder.

Kevin Masterson, the boy who took his father’s mace to become the hero THUNDERSTRIKE.

And the DESTROYER, the Asgardian armor built to take down Celestials – its wielder unknown.

“Asgardians of the Galaxy” #1 hits stands this September.
