Ahead of the release of “Teen Titans: Beast Boy,” DC have unveiled a five-page preview for its sequel, “Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven.” The newest graphic novel from writer Kami Garcia (“Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity,” “Wonder Woman”) and artist Gabriel Picolo (“Icarus and the Sun,” “Teen Titans: Raven”) serves as a sequel to both “Teen Titans: Raven” and “Teen Titans: Beast Boy,” bringing the two characters together under DC’s Graphic Novels for Young Adults.

The novel follows the two Titans as they grapple with secrets of their own past: Raven with her demonic father Trigon, and Beast Boy with his previously unknown powers. Their paths cross after being invited by Slade Wilson (Deathstroke), who has offered to help.

“When their paths converge in Nashville, Raven and Gar can’t help but feel a connection, despite the secrets they both try to hide,” reads the DC press release. “It will take a great amount of trust and courage to overcome the wounds of their pasts. But can they find acceptance for the darkest part of themselves? Or maybe even love?”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Garcia stated Beast Boy and Raven are “really fun to have together because they’re so different. Raven is a more guarded character, and Gar is not an open book but he is more open in general. He wants to let people in, and Raven is nervous about that.” Picolo said, “we’re trying to merge the aesthetics of our first two books with color. ‘Raven’ was a bit more monochromatic, there was a lot of purple because of the streaks in her hair, and ‘Beast Boy’ we had more color and cool greens. So we’re using a lot of light teals and cold purples to mix together on the color palette for the next book.”

“Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven” releases in 2021 for US$16.99, while “Teen Titans: Beast Boy” releases September 1, 2020, for the same price. For a preview of “Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven” look here, or inside your copy of “Teen Titans: Beast Boy.”
