Via The Beat, BOOM! Studios have announced a new four-part series by writer Bones Leopard, artists Kelly & Nichole Matthews, and letterer Jim Campbell, called “Save Yourself!” The series follows Gigi, one of the many fans of heroes Aoe, Gen, and Thel, aka the Lovely Trio, who came to Earth five years ago to defend the planet from evil monsters. However, when Gigi witnesses one of their battles, she discovers something that completely changes the way she perceives them.
Leopard and the Matthews twins have previously worked together on “Pandora’s Legacy.” In the press release, Leopard described the series as “a passion project that I’m so excited to finally bring to life. I’ve always wanted a chance to combine my love for magical girls with my love of kaiju, and once Kelly and Nichole Matthews were onboard with their fantastic art, I knew it was going to be an amazing ride.”
The Matthews twins stated, “We’ve wanted to work with Bones again since ‘Pandora’s Legacy’ and ‘Save Yourself!’ finally gave us that opportunity. We’re excited to show our take on a world filled with alien fights and magical girls!” Senior Editor at BOOM! Studios, Shannon Watters, said that a “wonderful alchemy… takes place” whenever Leopard and the Matthews Twins collaborate because they “instantly [envelope] you in a lush universe of distinctive characters you immediately fall in love with.”
