Marvel Drops First Trailer for Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is probably the strongest of all the Marvel movies thus far, so there’s a certain measure of hype and expectations for its follow-up, Captain America: Civil War. Premiering on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as part of his Star Wars Week (Disney does want to remind you they have other franchises beyond Star Wars), the trailer finds Cap trying to reconnect with Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier, further severing his already tumultuous relationship with Tony Stark.

This new trailer offers up plenty of choice action moments, including lots of punching, lots of charging at each other, and lots of super cool choreographed beat-downs, all of it delivered with the more brutal energy that we saw in Winter Solider. There’s also plenty of shots of superheroes staring intensely at each other or off in the distance, too, with key phrases being played in voice-over, like Black Widow’s: “You know what’s about to happen. Do you really want to punch your way out of this?” Already, it seems more exciting and well done than that last Avengers thing, especially because of that lost shot with Cap and Bucky beating down Iron Man.

Captain America: Civil War brings back its major players, including Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Anthony Mackie. Also appearing are Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olson, and Paul Bettany. It also introduces Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. The film is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russon, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and produced by (ugh) Kevin Feige. It’s scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.
