Back in February, Marvel revealed Donny Cates would write a spin-off comic for the Cosmic Ghost Rider introduced in Cates and Geoff Shaw’s “Thanos” arc ‘Thanos Wins.’ Now, Marvel has announced the five-issue series will begin in July, and be penciled by Dylan Burnett (“Heavy Metal,” Chuck Wendig’s “Turok” comic).

The Cosmic Ghost Rider is actually a version of Frank Castle, the Punisher, from a dystopian future where Thanos has become king, and killed almost every other hero. Selling his soul to Mephisto to get revenge on Thanos, Castle became the latest human to bond with the Spirit of Vengeance, but he returned too late to save Earth from the Mad Titan. He became a Herald of Galactus, only to find himself submitting to Thanos after the Devourer of Worlds is killed in battle. This follow-up to ‘Thanos Wins’ will see Castle riding solo, with his own “plans for a better universe com[ing] to fruition… however crazy they may be.”

“Cosmic Ghost Rider is such a blast to work on,” Cates was quoted as saying. “It’s honestly pretty overwhelming how much the Marvel fans have embraced this crazy character, and I’m having so much fun continuing the Rider’s insane story! If you thought ‘Thanos Wins’ was wild… you just wait to see what we have planned for everyone’s new favorite space lunatic!”

“Cosmic Ghost Rider” #1 will be released on July 4.
