Darwyn Cooke Receiving Palliative Care After Bout With “Aggressive Cancer”

News broke this morning via his website that Darwyn Cooke is receiving palliative care after a bout with an aggressive form of cancer. The post, entitled “fuck cancer” and written by Cooke’s wife, Marsha, doesn’t offer too many details, and asks, rightly so, for privacy in this matter.

Cooke, one of the true masters of sequential art, is perhaps best known for “DC: The New Frontier,” recently wrapped up “The Twilight Children” for Vertigo, and had announced a creator-owned book for Image, “Revengeance.”

This post isn’t to speculate on the severity or type of Cooke’s cancer; this post is to celebrate his amazing work. Back in 2014, we featured Cooke as part of our ‘Artist August’ series, and Alice W. Castle put together the following retrospective of his work. The truth is that we could feature 100 images and still just scratch the surface of what Cooke has brought to comics.

So, as we send well wishes, good vibes, and prayers to our friend in Canada, please enjoy these curated images and wish Darwyn the best.
