After being hinted to return in 2015, it was finally revealed as a part of DC FanDome that the Milestone Comics imprint will be revived in February 2021. The line will feature a digital-first “Static Shock” series, a follow-up “Static Shock” OGN by writer Reggie Hudlin (“Black Panther,” Django Unchained) and artist Kyle Baker (“Truth: Red, White & Black,” “Plastic Man”), and a new “Icon & Rocket” series, written by Hudlin with art by Denys Cowan (“The Question,” “Deathlok”).

Readers can expect a reintroduction to the Dakotaverse even earlier however, as a digital-first 17-page primer will be released on September 12, during the second DC FanDome event. “Milestone Returns” #0 will be available for free for 24 hours, and feature the writing of Hudlin and Greg Pak (“Planet Hulk,” “Agents of Atlas”), with art by Jim Lee, Cowan, Bill Sienkiewicz, Ryan Benjamin, Khoi Pham, Scott Hanna, Don Ho, Alex Sinclair, and Deron Bennett.

Milestone Comics was founded by four Black comic creators — Denys Cowan, Dwayne McDuffie, Michael Davis and Derek Dingle — in 1993, who were looking to represent a whole universe of inspirational, recognizable, and diversified heroes including Static Shock, Icon, Xombi, Hardware, Blood Syndicate, and Shadow Cabinet. The imprint lasted four years, ending in 1997. The series had a short revival in 2010 with “Milestone Forever” at DC. It will be returning properly during Black History Month next year, with Hudlin hinting at this only being the beginning for Milestone, with possible TV shows, films, podcasts and action figures on the way.

In 2017, it had been announced that Milestone would return in an anthology series titled “Earth-M,” beginning with a “Milestone” one-shot by Jim Lee and Geoff Johns, followed by the Hudlin/Baker “Static Shock” series, as well as a “Love Army” series by Hudlin, and a “Duo” series by Greg Pak. The titles were apparently delayed by a lawsuit filed by McDuffie’s widow Charlotte Fullerton, and the latter two books have yet to be confirmed in this new relaunch.

“Milestone Returns” #0 releases for free on September 12, followed by “Static Shock” in February 2021. For six pages of preview art, click here.
