DC Comics, at their “DC Metal and DC New Age of Heroes” panel at this year’s New York Comic Con, announced more details about the DCU post-“Dark Nights: Metal.” The panel consisted of Dan DiDio, Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Steve Orlando, Justin Jordan, Frank Tieri, James Tynion IV, Robert Venditti and Joshua Williamson. The panel discussed upcoming details of “Metal” and that the previously announced Dark Matter line is being renamed as the New Age of DC Heroes with titles launching this winter spinning out of “Metal.”
The panel discussed “Metal,” and added a few new details on the event, whose third issue launches Wednesday October 11, namely discussion of the “Bats Out of Hell” tie-in with writer Josh Williamson commenting “Cyborg is going to be plugged into the multiverse and access it as a computer — he becomes one with it. It’s Cyborg 1,000,000!” Williamson also teased post-“Metal” that “The Flash” would start a new arc dubbed “Flash War” in its first annual in January then running from issues #39-46 to answer the question of who is the better Flash Barry Allen or Wally West.

The panel then moved into talking about the New Age of Heroes titles, first about Tynion and Jim Lee’s “The Immortal Men” and Robert Venditti, Tony Daniel and Danny Miki’s “Damage” both launching in December. It was revealed that Cary Nord would come on “Damage” to take over from Daniel and draw the second arc which will bring in Poison Ivy and Gorilla Grodd. Three titles will launch in January, “Silencer” from Dan Abnett, John Romita, Jr. and Sandra Hope, “Sideways” from Dan DiDio, Justin Jordan, and Kenneth Rocafort, and “The Terrifics” from Jeff Lemire, Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. DiDio also mentioned like yesterday, that Grant Morrison is coming on the book to co-wrote with him and Jordan on issues #7-10 teasing that he’s helping the team get into the Dark Multiverse and some specific characters saying, “There are seven of them and they might be soldiers… that’s all though.”
The panel also revealed that the previously titled “Brimstone” series from Justin Jordan and Phillip Tan is being retitled “The Curse of Brimstone” and will be a horror-centric title launching in February. Jordon said the series would follow “a kid, he’s about 20-years-old… he’s watched the town die in his lifetime,” who meets a character named the Salesman and gets the power to turn into Brimstone.

It was also revealed that there is an additional “Metal” tie-in called “Dark Knights Rising: The Wild Hunt.” Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Josh Williamson, Doug Mahnke and Ivan Reis coming in February as well focusing on some parts of “Metal” Snyder wasn’t able to include in the main title. The issue follows Detective Chimp, Flash, Cyborg being chased by the Dark Knights. This issue is also allowing Greg Capullo more time on the main series and will be the only “Metal” book in February as #6 gets bumped to March.
Finally, another New Age of Heroes title was revealed written by Steve Orlando called “The Unexpected.” The book consists of the characters Neon the Unknown, Ascendant, Firebrand, and Viking Judge a group of characters who have done something “unforgivable” and will be drawn by Ryan Sook, which was not revaled at the panel, but revealed by Orlando later on Twitter. More details were shared Sunday at the “DC Universe” panel.
