The five issue mini-series looks to tap into the reader’s nostalgia for classic space operas like The Last Starfighter and Star Wars. It follows a boy, named Don, who is determined to beat the seemingly impossible arcade game Crucible, despite his father’s insistence that he shouldn’t play it. After sneaking out and somehow completing the game on his first quarter, Don is pulled into an ongoing intergalactic war that has reached the point of invasion.
“I loved the creative process we shared building this vision of our fantasy sci-fi world,” said Diablo, who is known for Future House music and an extensive catalogue of remixes. “Tom put together a legendary team for my crossover into comic books. This is the beginning of many inspiring stories to come.” This is reinforced by Tom Bilyeu, the CEO of Impact Theory, who said “Don Diablo and Michael Moreci together are a magical combo that have created a story that will suck readers of all ages into a thrilling, interplanetary adventure that they won’t be able to put down.”
This will be Impact Theory’s second series, following “Neon Future,” another sci-fi mini-series from DJ Steve Aoki. The company was founded by Tom and Lisa Bilyeu, who previously collaborated on the publishing label Quest Nutrition. This is their first foray into YA content.
The first issue releases on October 4th, in the midst of NYCC: subsequent issues will be released online and in stores next year. Don Diablo is also scheduled to perform on Friday night at the Great Hall-Avant Gardner in Brooklyn. The series launches with three variant covers.
