We’ve know that Paul Pope’s “Battling Boy” had been optioned for a movie for quite some time, even though there was precious few details about it. (What format is it going to be in? Who was going to be in it? Was it in danger of running into the same problem as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World adaptation, where the series wasn’t even finished before the movie was released?)
But today, the AV Club reports that Jason Mantzoukas has been tapped to write the script for the upcoming adaptation. Mantzoukas is known for his stints on The League, Parks and Recreation, Comedy Bang! Bang! and co-hosting the podcast, How Did This Get Made? He also scripted the Kevin Hart/Ice Cube vehicle, Ride Along, as well as episodes of Children’s Hospital and the upcoming The Donor
Mantzoukas joins director Patrick Osborne, a Disney animator who won an Oscar in 2014 for his short animated film, “Feast” and worked on movies like Big Hero 6. It’s being produced through Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment production company for Paramount Pictures. The film will use a hybrid of animation and live action to tell the story of a young god and the daughter of a fallen science hero teaming up to battle monster in the city Acropolis. No release date has been set yet, though the film is being “fast-tracked by Paramount.”
We’ll keep you updated with any more information, especially when “Battling Boy Part 2” finally gets a release date.
