Dark Horse has revealed, in an announcement with Entertainment Weekly, some major changes coming to the world of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.

John Arcudi

First up, John Arcudi will be wrapping up his run on “B.P.R.D.” early next year. Arcudi has been working in the Mignolaverse for over a decade and obviously has had a lot of influence over the direction of the Mignolavere. As Mike Mignola tells EW, “The reason why our stuff has worked for so long is that it’s only been a couple writers.”

From the sounds of it, Mike Mignola and editor Scott Allie will take up co-writing the “B.P.R.D.” series.

Mignola and Allie also welcome in new series writer, Chris Roberson (“iZombie,” “Sovereign,” MonkeyBrain Comics) to their circle. Roberson will start his tenure in the Mignolaverse with a 12-page story for the “Hellboy Winter Special” in January 2016, with artist Michael Walsh (“Secret Avengers”), before taking over “Hellboy & The B.P.R.D.: 1953. ” He starts his run first with artist Ben Steinbeck (“Frankenstein Underground”) for two one-shots about Hellboy traveling to England and dealing with ghosts. After that, artist Paolo Rivera (“Daredevil”) will take over the title for the rest of the story. Roberson also was brought in to handle the “Witchfinder” series, but details on that title remain unclear as of now.

“It was apparent right off that he wanted to play in this world — that he was willing to look at this world that we’ve been creating and pull bits of it together into something,” Mignola said of Roberson.

Chris Roberson

“There’s always a pressure when dealing with someone else’s creation to ‘get it right,'” Roberson tells EW. “Mignola and his collaborators have created this incredible world filled with so many characters and concepts. And I think what I’m most looking forward to is the chance to use as many of them in these stories, while at the same time adding new characters and concepts to the mix.”

For more information and details, see Mignola and Roberson’s interview at Entertainment Weekly. And for all things Hellboy related, be sure to check out our own Mignolaversity.
