Welcome to Multiversity’s coverage of the final day of New York Comic Con 2023! We’ll be updating this post with all the comics news from throughout the day, and link any and all full reports (in other words, think of this as a live substitute for the Rundown during the rest of the week.) Check back often, and soon!

Comics:

– In his Substack newsletter, incoming X-Men editor Tom Brevoort disclosed Wil Moss will succeed him as editor on the Avengers line next year. Brevoort, who has edited “The Avengers” since 1998, revealed Moss’s appointment while discussing the newly revealed Infinity Comics series “Avengers United,” making a tongue-in-cheek comment about how its future would be in his hands after its initial 25-part arc. Moss, a senior editor at Marvel, has overseen the Hulk, Thor, and Black Panther titles (among others) since 2014.

– At the Women of Marvel panel, a new “Women of Marvel” annual was announced for February 2024. The only contributors confirmed at the time of writing are Gail Simone, and cover artist Carmen Carnero. Also announced was a third season of Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru’s “It’s Jeff!,” kicking off with issue #25 on Unlimited this Friday, October 20, and ‘Loki Presents,’ a new arc of the Infinity series “Marvel’s Voices” starring the God of Lies, written by Karla Pacheco with art by Roberta Ingranata; that will begin in issue #75 on November 1.

– Several Star Wars comics were revealed by Lucasfilm, including three Marvel miniseries: “Star Wars: Mace Windu,” a series intended to mark the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace in January, written by Marc Bernardin; “Thrawn: Alliances,” an adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s prose novel scripted by Jody Houser, also starting in January; and “Jango Fett,” penned by Ethan Sacks, beginning in March. It was also announced “Bounty Hunters” will come to an end soon, and that Dark Horse will begin publishing original “Hyperspace Stories” graphic novels. The first two, “Qui-Gon” and “Obi-Wan,” will be respectively written by George Mann with art by Andrea Mutti, and Cecil Castelucci with Lucas Marangon.

– “Let’s Play” creator Leeanne M. Krecic revealed Manta will be the platform for a new webcomic, titled “Dragon King Oath.” The 100-part series will follow Princess Lisette Wylgerent, “who is pledged to a fearsome dragon named Raith as part of an ancient pact, and [who] must confront her own prejudices and fears to forge a new path for her kingdom. As she delves into the complex world of dragons and uncovers the true nature of their relationship with humans, Lisette embarks on a journey of personal growth and self-discovery that will change the course of history for both races.” It will debut in late 2024.

– Dark Horse teased a new Legend of Korra graphic novel, “Mystery of Penquan Island.” Drawn by Alexandria Monik, the book will star the brothers Mako and Bolin. Further details will be announced at a later date.

– Image shed more light on Kid Cudi and Kyle Higgins’s “Moon Man” (which was announced on Thursday), revealing it will be penciled by Marco Locati (“Campisi: The Dragon Incident”), and colored by Igor Monti (“Inferno Girl Red”). The ongoing series, starting January 31, follows an astronaut who discovers he has superpowers.

Film and TV:

– Netflix released the second trailer for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the anime series based directly on the comics, starring the cast of the film. The show premieres November 17.

– At a panel for his upcoming film Argylle, director Matthew Vaughn reiterated plans to direct Kingsman 3 (which he intends to direct next year) and a Kick-Ass reboot. He later added he has plans for a follow-up to the prequel The King’s Man called The Traitor King, depicting the rise of Adolf Hitler in the films’ version of events, although he isn’t sure if it will be realized as another movie or a TV series (especially with the WGA strike having just ended.)

Vaughn also disclosed another reason he dropped out of directing X-Men: The Last Stand, which he was set to helm before Brett Ratner: during pre-production, he discovered a script had been written with fake scenes to persuade Halle Berry to return to the project, scenes the producers had no intention of filming, but that they would say had been “cut” later on. “I was like, ‘Wow, you’re gonna do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm?,'” he said. “‘I’m outta here.’ So I quit at that point.” X-Men: The Last Stand was written by Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn, and produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, Ralph Winter, and Avi Arad.

Games and Apps:

– Sony released a final trailer for Spider-Man 2 ahead of its release on Friday, October 20, revealing one more classic Spidey villain making his debut in the Gamerverse:

– Marvel announced two upcoming stories for the audio fitness app ZRX: Captain America: Turkey Trot (written by Meghan Fitzmartin with art by Tom Whalen), and Ant-Man 5M Challenge (penned by Gerry Duggan). The former will arrive in time for Thanksgiving, while the latter is a New Year’s Day-themed adventure that will arrive in January.
