Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

Apparently there was some comics news announced at ComicsPro yesterday. In Portland, of all places! (I know!) For the DC coverage, we not only have a conveniently comprehensive breakdown of the announced news and titles (complete with table!) but also so-soon-it-might-as-well-have-been-live audio commentary by our own DC3 on The DC3cast! For the rest, read on…

The Beat breaks down the slew of Dark Horse announcements, including Cullen Bunn writing a new chapter in the ongoing Conan ‘series’ of series, Gail Simone launching an all-ages creator-owned title at the company, and more. But the most exciting news for me out of that batch is the mention of the company’s first release in their Moebius Library series: “The World of Edena”. The book isn’t due out until almost Halloween, but it will be an omnibus collection of all five Edena albums, only three of which have been translated into English and none of which are currently in-print. I thought Dark Horse might have kicked off the collection with something a little higher on the Moebius profile list (like “The Airtight Garage” or “Blueberry”) but: 1) there is literally no such thing as bad Moebius, 2) the Edena material I’ve seen has been stunning, and 3) the story cycle was something Moebius did over a period of years, coming back to in in-between other projects, so it had to have ranked as one of his more personal expressions.

– I’ve joked about Portland achieving some kind of critical mass and becoming a black hole that will now just pull the entire comics industry to it, but now I’m starting to think there’s something actually factually true about that. Exhibit A: the CBLDF is moving from New York City to…Portland!

– In a move that confuses me in a completely welcoming way, Fox’s Legion pilot has added Jeremie Harris to the cast as Ptonomy. The confusing part isn’t the addition of Harris as an actor, which I’m sure will work out fine, but that they’re adding a character that doesn’t have a direct counterpart in the X-Universe this series will draw from. I know this isn’t the first time this has happened, even on this show, but since Ptonomy (and not Ptolemy as I’ve been typing and erasing longer than I care to admit) is described as ““an outsider by nature, stand-offish and sardonic who is a former child prodigy who feels trapped in the past”, that feels like something someone pulled directly from the comics. Vaguely mutant-y, vaguely time travel-y maybe? Dunno. But the fact they aren’t cramming every available nook & cranny of casting space with fan-pandering comic-source stunt casting has me a little more hopeful about the series. Hopefully the pilot gets picked up and we’ll learn more about Ptolemy…errr…Ptonomy.

– Despite what Gold Hat would have you believe in Treasures of the Sierra Madre, you do need stinkin’ badges, especially if you’re going to San Diego Comicon. And those badges will now be RFID-chipped.

Artist Reilly Brown is in need of one of those patented comics-community-helping-hands after he and his family were forced to evacuate their apartment when a building fire spread their way. Their actual apartment only sustained smoke & water damage, but given the extent of it and the fact he has a newborn baby, that’s bad enough. Check out the link to see what you can do to help (and what cool Brown swag you can get as a result).

Greg Matiasevich

Greg Matiasevich has read enough author bios that he should be better at coming up with one for himself, yet surprisingly isn't. However, the years of comic reading his parents said would never pay off obviously have, so we'll cut him some slack on that. He lives in Baltimore, co-hosts (with Mike Romeo) the Robots From Tomorrow podcast, writes Multiversity's monthly Shelf Bound column dedicated to comics binding, and can be followed on Twitter at @GregMatiasevich.
