The Great Amazon Extravaganza: Aftermath

For those who missed out on Matt’s news article a couple of days ago, this weekend Amazon.com marked down many omnibuses and other large collections from every publisher (except DC, since they use a separate distributor) down to as low as ~$8.50. After much confusion as to why this was (confusion added to by certain sites reporting mere rumors as “facts”), we finally have the final word on the massive mark-downs:

  • It was a glitch, not a sale.
  • Even though it was a glitch, Amazon honored all purchases so long as one did not order multiples of one product (in which case the quantity was reduced to one, rather than canceled).
  • Unfortunately, if one did not order early or choose next day shipping, many of the higher profile omnibuses sold out and caused the order to be canceled.

Rumors are still flying across the internet about the “real” reason, but this is what Amazon has said on the matter through phonecalls and email (including one informing me I wouldn’t get the four I ordered). For those lucky people who got their extremely cheap omnibuses, enjoy them, and don’t be a jerk by just turning them for a profit.
