– Brian Bendis announced that a new “Amethyst” book is in the works over at DC Comics, building on the character’s appearance in this week’s “Young Justice” relaunch. In a tweet, Bendis said a major female creator who was his “first and only pick for the project” has already signed on for the series.
– “Spy Seal”‘s Rich Tommaso has launched a Patreon for a new comics magazine series “in the spirit of ‘Metal Hurlant,'” which will feature a number of original stories from both Tommaso and other creators. You can check out the Patreon here.
– Sony’s Venom is confirmed for a sequel, according to Variety. Screenwriter Kelly Marcel will return to script the as-yet-untitled sequel, which is expected to drop in 2020. Venom grossed $855 million worldwide.
– Black Panther, Batman: The Enemy Within, and the PS4’s Spider-Man game all received nominations for the 71st annual Writers Guild of America awards. Black Panther was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Batman and Spider-Man were nominated for Video Game Writing. You can view the full list of nominees at The Hollywood Reporter.
– Noted Star Trek and Doctor Who actor William Morgan Sheppard passed away at the age of 86, according to ComicBook.com. In addition to appearing in those noted sci-fi franchises, Sheppard played several smaller comic book-related roles, including appearances in the Iron Man, Justice League, and Young Justice cartoons.
– Netflix debuted the official trailer for Polar, a noir action thriller based on Victor Santos’s (“Bad Girls”) webcomic of the same name. Polar (the film) will hit Netflix on Jan. 25.
– The Justice League Vs. The Fatal Five animated feature has found its voice cast. The Hollywood Reporter says DC animation veterans Kevin Conroy (Batman), Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman), and George Newbern (Superman) will be joined by Elyes Gabel (Scorpion) as Thomas Kallor/Star Boy, Diane Guerrero (Doom Patrol) as Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern, and a host of others when Justice League Vs. The Fatal Five debuts this Spring.
– Author Warren Ellis (“The Wild Storm,” “Planetary”) revealed he was approached to play the part of reclusive author Jerome F Davies in the recent Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. According to Newsarama (and Ellis’s newsletter), Ellis was “just too busy” with his own award-winning TV work to take on the role.
– If you’re still looking for someone to blame for Colossus and Kitty Pryde’s failed wedding, Xavier Files found your man. Apparently, writer Donny Cates was first to suggest the X-Men wedding switcheroo, and Marvel Editor-in-Chief CB Cebulski says there’s still some follow-up yet to come.
– And finally, “Judas”‘s Jeff Loveness released a short comedy film, titled Stock, over at Omeleto. The eleven-minute short tells the story of a stock footage photographer who’s ready to leave the game for good, before a new floss model reignites his interest.
