In case you missed it, DC announced “The Next Batman: Second Son” miniseries.

— “Canto,” created by David M. Booher and Drew Zucker, has been renewed by IDW through 2022. The series continues in April 2021 with a three-issue miniseries titled “Canto & the City of Giants,” featuring guest artist Sebastián Piriz. Mid-2021 will see the premiere of “Canto III: Lionhearted,” followed by “Canto IV: A Place Like Home,” a six-issue conclusion to the saga slated for 2022.

— Marvel announced a new creative team for “Champions” beginning in April 2021. Writer Danny Lore and artist Luciano Vecchio will take over beginning with “Champions” #6. According to Marvel, “A sinister corporation is cheating the system to try to keep Kamala’s Law on the books, so the Champions infiltrate the company to take it down from the inside. But the company’s wildly popular self-help app is already turning public perception against teen Super Heroes. Can the Champions wage war on a trend? And how dirty will their hands get before it’s over?”

— DC is transferring its Direct Market graphic novel inventory to Lunar Distribution from Diamond Comic Distributors, according to an email to retailers. The process is slow going, resulting in out-of-stocks and delays while the industry continues to deal with disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

May Calamawy (Ramy) has been cast in Moon Knight. She joins Oscar Isaac on the Disney+ series, though no details are available as of yet on the direction of the series as well as Calamawy’s role.

Jon Cor (Shadowhunters) has joined The Flash season 7 in the recurring role of Mark Stevens, aka Chillblaine, a supervillain who uses cryogenic weapons. The Flash returns to the CW on February 23.

— Lucasfilm Games confirmed that it is no longer exclusive to EA and announced a collaboration with Ubisoft on a new open-world Star Wars game that is immersive and story-driven. VP Douglas Reilly teased that “this is “just the beginning of what I think is going to be a very exciting year for Lucasfilm Games,” which includes some upcoming projects with EA as well.

— Via CNN correspondent Jake Tapper’s Twitter, Neal Kirby, the son of Jack Kirby, released a statement condemning terrorists who wore Captain America gear during the storming of the United States Capitol on January 6. Kirby, 72, noted his father, and Captain America co-creator Joe Simon, were “two Jewish guys from New York who hated Nazis,” and that they would have been “absolutely sickened” by the misappropriation of the character.

— Finally, Julie Strain passed away on January 10 after a long battle with dementia. The model and actress was a “constant presence” in the Heavy Metal comics magazine during the 1990s. She also served as the model and voice of Julie in the film Heavy Metal 2000, and its spinoff game Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.2.
