– Tom King responded to criticism of his and Andy Kubert’s most recent “Superman” feature in Walmart’s 100-page giant, which shows Superman imagining many possible fates that might have befallen an incommunicado Lois Lane. Comic Book Resources ran a statement from King, who said, “Love comes with stress, agony, risk, vulnerability, and we shouldn’t deny that stress, agony, risk, and vulnerability. However, love also comes with the unique joy of putting your faith in someone else … [t]his story is not about the deaths of Lois Lane or the anxieties of Superman; it is about the love of Lois Lane and the love of Superman.”
– The Shogakukan Manga Awards announced this year’s winners, including “12-Sai” as Best Children’s Manga, “Dr. Stone” as Best Shonen Manga, “Suteki na Kareshi” as Best Shojo Manga, and “Hibiki: Shōsetsuka ni Naru Hōhō” and “Kenkō de Bunkateki na Saitei Gendo no Seikatsu” as the year’s Best Manga. – Channing Tatum is considering directing his Gambit movie himself, according to Flickering Myth. The movie’s scheduled to release on March 13, 2020, but with no director formally attached and the status of Fox’s X-Men spin-offs in doubt, that date might not hold.
– The Rio Jewish Federation is suing cartoonist Aroeira over a “Nazi hug” cartoon that recently appeared in Rio de Janerio’s O Dia newspaper. The cartoon pictured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro hugging each other, with their interlocking arms forming a swastika.
