Scalped, based on the Vertigo series of the same name, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by R.M. Guéra, continues to grow its cast and crew this week. The WGN America pilot has cast Alex Meraz (Suicide Squad, The Twilight Saga) as Dashiell Bad Horse. The series revolves around Meraz’ Dashiell’s return to the reservation following a 15-year absence. The pilot, has promised to have a heavy native American cast, and which recently named its directors and Carol Red Crow, does not have a release date.

– Matt Reeves has reportedly exited negotiations with Warner Bros to take over as Director of The Batman. Reeves was reported to take over the director’s role following Ben Affleck vacating the role earlier this month.

– The was some good news for Warner Bros and the DCEU this week, with confirmation of director Mel Gibson in talks to helm Suicide Squad 2, after it had been rumored for about a week. Suicide Squad 2 is currently scheduled for 2019.

– Reportedly, David Thewlis (Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series) will be Ares in the upcoming in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. Sources indicate that Ares will be the main villain of the movie and will be a blend of physical acting, practical effects, and GCI. There has been no confirmation on secondary villains at this point.

– This May sees IDW Publishing and toymaker Funko, teaming up for a month of one shot comics of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Ghostbusters,” “The X-Files,” “Judge Dredd” and “Strawberry Shortcake.” The team up will also feature special Funko variants of other licensed properties currently published by IDW.

– In a return to 90’s glory, Valiant Entertainment joins the Vans Warped Tour this. This partnership will see the Valiant library travel with American’s long running touring festival. Expected on tour is various posters, artwork, and merchandise of Valiant characters around the festival grounds as well as a Valiant exhibit at selected tour dates.

– Titan Comics is expanding with the recently announced “Tekken” comic. The new series, which follows the game of the same name is set for release this May. The series by Cavan Scott and Andie Tong, will serve as a tie in for Tekken 7, and feature many of the fan favourite characters from the series.

– Marvel have announced the full content for their upcoming “X-Men Prime” #1. The one shot to set the new status quo for the X-books will now contain a back story by Leonard Kirk and Ibraim Roberson, in additional to the main story by Marc Guggenheim and Ken Lashley. X-Men Prime will remain at $4.99 for 40 pages as previously solicited.

-A good comic idea never stays down. Following its cancellation after three issues at DC, “Insurgent” appears to have found another life as “Failsafe” at Vault Comics. Vault Comics recently launched with a number of titles originally set for released in Heavy Metal. “Failsafe” by F.J. DeSanto, Federico Dallocchio and Todd Farmer launches this April.

– Swedish filmmaker David F. Sandberg, best known for horror films like Lights Out, is reportedly in talks to helm New Line Cinema’s adaption of the DC Comic character Shazam. Shazam is currently scheduled for 2019, and will follow the adventures of Billy Bastion after he is granted the powers of Shazam, as well as that of his nemesis Black Adam, who has already been cast, being played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

– Following a release of the French and Spanish translations for Star Wars Episode VII, a potential fan theory regarding the plot was given a boost. Because we don’t want to be accused of spoiling the film, just click through to find out.

– Mondays make everyone grumpy. Dynamite Entertainment and BOOM! Studios are teaming
up for a crossover between their top feline friends. “Garfield” creator Jim Davis will write a crossover between Grumpy Cat and Garfield the Cat this summer. The crossover is expected to be published this summer.

– And, finally, we ran a poll on Friday asking what your favorite WildStorm team book was and, overwhelmingly “Planetary” won, grabbing 53% of the vote! “The Authority” came in second with 19%, “Gen13” had 10%, “Stormwatch” and “WildC.A.T.S.” got 8% of the vote each, and “DV8” and “Wetwork” bringing up the rear, getting 2% and 1% of the vote, respectively.
