– Via Popverse, Image released an exclusive preview for the next chapter of Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino and Dave Stewart’s ‘Bone Orchard Mythos’: “Tenement,” a ten-issue miniseries that follows seven residents of the titular home, who find themselves brought together by a mysterious death. Orginally announced as an OGN, Jeff Lemire calls “Tenement” the centerpiece of the ‘Bone Orchard Mythos,’ saying it “starts to connect all the threads of our previous ‘Bone Orchard’ books and begins to reveal the larger mythology we have been building.” “Tenement” will debut on June 21, 2023 with an extra-sized issue clocking in at 40 pages.
– Marvel have announced “Marvel Super Stories,” the first middle-grade anthology of all-new comics from Abrams Books. The book will feature six-page stories written and illustrated by a number of kids comics creators, including Jerry Craft, Mike Curato, C.G. Esperanza as well as John Jennings, who will also edit the book. Jennings stated “Marvel Comics is an institution that has inspired so many imaginations across the world, including my own. With ‘Marvel Super Stories’ we get to continue that legacy, presenting the best and brightest creators coupled with the most marvelous heroes.” “Marvel Super Stories” will be available October 17, 2023.
– Via Gizmodo, Image have announced the release of Joe Madureira’s “Battle Chasers” #10, over 20 years after it was first solicited for November 2001. “Battle Chasers” follows a once legendary swordsman named Garrison who must take up his blade again. Madureira, who will be joined by Ludo Lullabi on art duties, will launch a new story arc that sees Garrison battle a group of supernatural killers called the Martial Paladins. The previous nine issues were collected by Image in reprints in 2020. “Battle Chasers” #10 will be released June 14, 2023.
– In a tweet, Stephanie Phillips announced “Eight Limbs,” a new graphic novel from Humanoids. Phillips scripted the book with Giulia Lalli on art duties, while Lee Loughridge provided colors. The book is edited by Jake Thomas. Phillips describes “Eight Limbs” as “a story about Muay Thai, found family, and why we make the choice to step into the ring. It’s a love letter to a sport that means the world to me.” “Eight Limbs” will be released in July.
– Also via Twitter, Alex De Campi announced a new book at Image with Erica Henderson entitled “Parasocial.” And in a true social media experiment, De Campi said “we need YOUR social media handles for our endpaper design! Please LIKE this tweet to consent to use your @ in PARASOCIAL! (it’ll just say ‘@ your_name liked this,’ nothing weird).” De Campi also teased the art, saying while they couldn’t reveal the cover just yet, “overall this is the most striking art of Erica’s career.” “Parasocial” will debut in October.
– Via The Hollywood Reporter, the latest round of winners for the Script2Comic contest were announced. The contest involves winning scripts being turned into comics published by Scout Comics, with options for film or television. Taking first prize this year was “BOT” by Gregory Lemmons, which was picked up for development by Motor Content. Second prize went to “The Undeathable Dead Dudes,” from writer Winston Han, to be published by Scout Comics. Ruby Mainieri’s “Miss Demeanor” took home third prize. And now, the contest will expand to horror, with the Horror2Comic contest taking submissions with winners set to have their comics published by Shiver, an upcoming horror line from Scout.
– Marvel have announced, in collaboration with StoryToys, a new Marvel HQ app, designed for families and kids. Marvel said “Marvel HQ will be an edutainment hub designed for kids ages 4-7, containing fun and age-appropriate games, videos, creative activities, books, comics, and interactive characters from across the Marvel Universe.” Marvel HQ will launch in May 2023, and is now available for pre-order on the App Store and Google Play.
– Via Crunchyroll, Japanese voice actor Shozo Iizuka passed away on February 15 due to acute heart failure, at age 89. Iizuka was born in Tokyo on May 23, 1933, before moving to Iwaki City in Fukushima. His first anime role was as Kin Sankaku in the original Astro Boy anime. He would later voice Nappa in the Dragon Ball franchise and Ryu Jose in Mobile Suit Gundam. A funeral with close family has already been held.
