In case you missed it, the greatest swashbucklers in literature will join forces in AfterShock’s “Seven Swords.”

– The third volume of Dark Horse’s Critical Role tie-in series “The Mighty Nein Origins” will star Aasimar barbarian Yasha Nydoorin. “Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins – Yasha Nydoorin” explores the history of the Orphan Maker of the Dolorav tribe, portrayed in the show by Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, Blindspot). Johnson and Critical Role Dungeon Master Matt Mercer will assist writer Cecil Castellucci, artist William Kirkby, colorist Diana Sousa, and letterer Ariana Maher on the title. “Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins – Yasha Nydoorin” hits shelves on September 15, 2021, following books about Jester Lavorre and Caleb Widogast releasing in August.
– HBO is developing an animated series based on “Slam!,” the BOOM! Studios series about an all-girls roller derby team, for its HBO Max streaming service. Series writer Pamela Ribon, who created the comic with artist Veronica Fish, will adapt the book for television. Rooster Teeth Studios (RWBY, gen:LOCK) will develop it, along with Texas-based animation studio Minnow Mountain (Tower, Undone).
– To promote the upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon appeared in a commercial for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Comedian D.C. Pierson also reprised his MCU role from 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuts March 19 exclusively on Disney+.
– Marvel Monsters: Beasts of the Marvel Universe is now available for preorder from publisher DK. This book, written by Kelly Knox, is a “comprehensive field guide to Marvel flora, fauna, and beasts great and small shows off claws, teeth, tails, and wings.” The official summary promises that readers will “never get Fin Fang Foom and Tim Boom Ba mixed up again!” The book is scheduled for release on July 13 of this year.
– Marvel has joined with anti-smoking campaign The Real Cost to produce “Mind Control Menace,” a five-part motion comic warning teens about the dangers of vaping. The comic was written by Paul Allor with art by J.L. Giles. The Real Cost is sponsored by the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP).
– Finally, Marvel revealed “Planet-Size X-Men” #1, a double-sized one-shot from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Pepe Larraz, dropping June 16. The issue is part of the ‘Hellfire Gala’ event, where the X-Men of Krakoa will reveal themselves to the rest of the world at the Hellfire Trading Company’s inaugural ball. The event will span 12 issues, each following twelve separate stories happening over a single night. Marvel plans to reveal more covers in the build-up to the event.
