– We led off yesterday’s Rundown with news about the Ardian Syaf and the controversy surrounding his inserting of graffiti into “X-Men Gold” #1. Today, Syaf issued his first official statement on the events, declaring that his career is over, and that accepting responsibility for his actions, though he stands by them and claims that his intentions have been misunderstood.
-Jamie Hewlett is developing a ten-episode animated series for the cartoon members of the band Gorillaz. Hewlett and fellow Gorillaz co-creator Damon Albarn are planning on ramping up the mythology of the band in the run up to the April 28th release of their new record, Humanz.
– “Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe,” one of the best selling titles of the last few years for the House of Ideas, returns with a brand new five issue run from original series creators Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajić, Bunn gives a frank interview about the original series which ended with Wade Wilson attacking the Marvel offices. He gives us reasons for the follow up series, whets the appetite for the trouble that Deadpool will cause this time, teasing that his motives and methods will be different.
– Netflix’s Punisher series has wrapped production, based Instagram photos posted by Jon Bernthal and Ben Barnes showing what is likely a post filming wrap party. Bernthal will be reprising the role of Frank Castle who debuted in Daredevil season 2. No release date has been announced yet for the series.
– Wonder Woman willl open on June 2nd is projected to have an $83 million dollar opening weekend according to BoxOfficePro’s estimations. If correct, this would be nearly $50 million less than Suicide Squad pulled in on its opening weekend.
-Nick Spencer tweeted a link to the “Secret Empire” trailer, featuring him and Tom Brevoort talking up what is to be Marvel’s last company wide crossover for eighteen months.
– Your Name, the animated movie written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, has earned $1.6 million dollars is it’s first weekend of US release ranking it #13 for the weekend. Already the highest grossing anime of all time, the box office gate is impressive given its limited release of only 303 theaters.
– Film legend John Carpenter returns with a trailer for a comics anthology series “John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction,” which will begin this July. The first three issue story arc “Vault,” written by James Ninness with art by Andres Esparza, is featured in the stunning clip.
– Stan Lee, Joe Quesada, and Kevin Smith have teamed up for a “Cup Of Joe” event at the Paley Center in Los Angeles on April 14. Proceeds from ticket sales, as well as the funds raised from a special auction, will be going to the Hero Initiative, with whom Multiversity has paired on a number of occasions.
– Manu Bennett’s Deathstroke will be returning to Arrow before the end of season 5 according to the show’s star, Stephen Amell. Bennett was the main villain of the show’s second season.
– And, finally, G.I. joe will be geeing a movie franchise reboot with a younger, millennial, audience in mind according to Hasbro. What does a more millennial-friendly G.I. Joe look like? You’ll have to wait to find out.
