In case you missed it, DC Comics announced two new series, including “Batman: White Knight Presents: Red Hood,” along with the DC Universe debut of Nia Nal.
– Grant Morrison announced plans to enter into the world of prose novels with Luda. The novel will follow Luci LaBang, a drag artist whose career is beginning to diminish, only for a woman who looks like a younger version of her, to arrive; ensnared by her looks, Luci takes Luda under her wing to teach her about “The Glamour, a mysterious discipline that draws on sex, drugs, and the occult for its trancelike transformative effects.” However, it becomes quickly apparent that Luda’s apprenticeship may have deadly consequences. Del Rey Books has given Luda a release date of September 6. In the meantime, you can check out an interview with Morrison here.
– Mad Cave Studios announced “The Tiger’s Tongue” by writer Olivia Stephens, artist Diansakhu Banton-Perry, colorist Bex Glendining, and letterer Joamette Gil. Odera Igbokwe is the series’ cover artist. The series will be aimed at all ages, and follow the lives of twin princesses, Kelindi and Aridani, whose kingdom, the Claw, is close to the outbreak of war, with one princess keen to establish peace and the other averse to being a ruler. However, their intentions aside, the twins are entangled in an ancient prophecy that may decide their future. “The Tiger’s Tongue” #1 is scheduled for release in July.
– In their June 2022 solicitations, DC Comics revealed a new one-shot called “Artemis: Wanted,” by writer Vita Ayala and artist Skylar Patridge. The description of the book states that the titular character will be “on the run from her [Amazonian] sisters for her sins,” though the details of her “sins” were not specified. As a result, many have questioned whether Artemis could be the one responsible for Hippolyta’s death; the mystery surrounding the character’s death is the central question at the heart of the ongoing Wonder Woman event ‘Trial of the Amazons.’ “Artemis: Wanted” #1 is due to be released on July 19, with ‘Trial of the Amazons’ set to conclude in the second of its eponymous miniseries on April 26.
– Marvel announced that Venom will be joining forces with the King of Asgard in an upcoming two-part story in “Thor,” by writer Donny Cates and guest artist Salvador Larroca. Details about the story were kept largely under wraps, with the publisher only stating that they are working side by side to “combat a new threat to Earth.” The first part of the story will be featured in “Thor” #27, arriving on July 27, with the second part due in “Thor” #28, which is expected in August. – First Second acquired “Ruined,” a Regency-era romance graphic novel by writer Sarah Vaughn, line artist and colorist Sarah Searle, and inker Niki Smith. The graphic novel will follow a woman who marries a stranger, whilst struggling with the shame brought on by her past. Vaughn and Searle had previously started publishing “Ruined” as a series at Rosy Press before the publisher closed, though Searle detailed that the upcoming release is the same story “but totally revamped.” September 2023 is the currently scheduled release window for “Ruined.” You can check out a pair of Searle’s work-in-progress screenshots over on Twitter.
– ABLAZE Publishing are set to bring “Promethee 13:13” to print, it was announced. The series by Andy Diggle and Shawn Martinbrough, which featured covers by Jock, was first released as a two-part comiXology Original mini-series in 2019, and is a prequel to “Promethee” by Christophe Bec. “Promethee 13:13” follows Darla Clemenceau, a woman who suffers from visions of an apocalyptic future, trying to take the next step in her life. ABLAZE have given the print edition, and a rereleased digital edition, of “Promethee 13:13” #1 a release date of July 6.
– “Dreamless” by Bobby Crosby and Sarah Ellerton is set to be adapted into a feature film following the success of Marry Me, an adaptation of another of Crosby’s webcomic-turned-graphic novels, according to Variety. Producer Uri Singer acquired the film and television rights to “Dreamless,” with a host of executive producers already onboard the project. “Dreamless” follows the love story of an American girl and a Japanese boy during the Second World War, who meet when they each experience the other’s life while dreaming. A schedule for the film’s development has not been announced.
– The HBO Max film adaptation of “Wonder Twins” found its leads in the shape of KJ Apa (Riverdale) and Isabel May (1883). The duo will play alien twins, Zan and Jayna, respectively, who have shape shifting abilities that are granted when they touch hands and say “Wonder twin power, activate!;” Zan is able to change into any state of water, and Jayna is able to change into any animal. Specific plot details for the adaptation are not known, with only writer Adam Sztykiel (Black Adam) and producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey the other individuals attached to the project at this time.
– Finally, the Hero Initiative shared the news that they have helped writer William Messner-Loebs (best known for his work on “Wonder Woman” and “The Flash”) and his wife Nadine, move into “permanent, stable, assisted living” after spending time in “transient housing.” You can see a video of the couple entering their new home for the first time here, and provide further support to the organization here.
