– HeroesCon has canceled this year’s convention because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Charlotte, North Carolina-based organizers said, “Guidelines for the gradual reopening of our State have been laid out in three phases, which at this time suggest that any mass gathering of more than 10,000 would be incredibly unlikely by June of 2020.” The next HeroesCon will be held in Charlotte June 18-20, 2021.
– Jason Chatfield, President of the National Cartoonists Society, was interviewed by The Washington Post about his and his wife’s recent battle with COVID-19. Chatfield turned their experiences into a comic called “Covid-19 Diary,” partly as a “public service,” and as a response to anyone not taking the coronavirus seriously enough. You can read more at the interview, and “Covid-19 Diary” here.
– Nintendo Switch comics app InkyPen announced a deal with Kodansha USA Publishing to add their titles to the service. Manga titles now available to read on the Switch include “Attack on Titan,” “Parasyte,” “Battle Angel Alita,” and “Fairy Tail,” and new releases will be added regularly.
– Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures shuffled the release dates for a few upcoming films — the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel was delayed from July 16, 2021, to November 5, 2021; Thor: Love and Thunder was moved up a week to February 11, 2022; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was delayed to March 25, 2022; and the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel was pushed back to October 7, 2022. Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2 are also still set for release in the summer of 2022.
– Meanwhile, Sony Pictures teamed up with character designer Luigi Lucarelli to mark the 25th anniversary of Bad Boys — as well as the home release of Bad Boys for Life — with comic book-style illustrations of scenes from all three films. You can view the artwork here.
– The Hollywood Reporter learned that Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy has replaced Stephen Schiff as the showrunner on Disney+’s Cassian Andor series. They also report Genevieve O’Reilly will reprise the role of Mon Mothma, while Denise Gough (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) will play a new character on the Star Wars prequel, set five years before the events of Rogue One.
– French video game developer/publisher Microids (Blacksad: Under the Skin) announced a new PC/console Tintin game. Tintin’s last video game appearance came in Ubisoft’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, an adaptation of Steven Spielberg’s 2011 film of the same name.
– Finally, as a result of the pandemic bringing filming to an abrupt end, Riverdale season 4 will conclude with the 19th episode, “Killing Mr. Honey,” on Wednesday, May 6; while DC Universe’s animated Harley Quinn series will premiere in the UK on E4 the following day, May 7.
