– Bad Idea, via Twitter, have announced their ‘Final Five’ books along with their creative teams. The publisher announced “Monster Kill Squad,” written by Christos Gage, with art by Tomas Giorello and colors by Diego Rodriguez. When monster attacks have increased one hundredfold, a government unit of “the most dangerous motherfuckers on the planet, the deadliest folks alive are here to put a bullet in the brain of everything that walks, crawls, flies, or hides in shadows,” reads the solicitation. “There have always been monsters. Now there are monster killers, and the MKS will kill it, and kill it good.” “Monster Kill Squad” will be four issues long, and debut September 1, 2021. You can check out a preview here.

– Next up, Bad Idea announced “Pyrate Queen,” by Peter Milligan with art by Adam Pollina, and colors from Tamra Bonvillain. “Pyrate Queen” follows Monday Ryan, a pyrate whose husband and crew were all captured and killed by the British navy. After discovering she’s pregnant, her life is spared. Now, “set adrift on a small raft and left to her fate on the open sea, Monday vows that the life growing inside her will be born into a world where its father’s death has been avenged.” “Pyrate Queen” #1 will be available September 1, 2021. Check out the preview here.

– “The Hero Trade,” Bad Idea’s secret release comic book, will continue in “Hero Trade: Passive/Aggressive,” written by Matt Kindt with art from David Lapham. It will debut on August 4, 2021. “Hero Trade: Passive/Aggressive” follows the brutal vigilante known as The Watch after his civilian identity is hacked. He travels to Russia, “with 8.8 billion reasons to kill every last member of the Russian hacking farm, and justice will be measured in broken bones and gallons of blood.” Check out the preview here.

– Bad Idea announced “Refuse x Last Resort,” a “planet-sized double shot.” ‘Refuse’ will be written by Matt Kindt with Marguerite Savauge on art duties, while ‘Last Resort’ will be written by Mark Russell with art from Adam Pollina. ‘Refuse’ follows a woman who’s woken up on an alien planet. The synopsis reads: “After months barely surviving, she discovers a mysterious spacecraft at the bottom of a frozen lake. She dredges it, only to discover a blurred holographic image and distorted messages. She repairs the craft and journeys across the galaxy — but what is the ship’s destination, and who are the messages from?” Then in ‘Last Resort,’ Cyrus Garvey agrees to help a friend sit through a time share presentation he had previously attended. He is shocked to find a familiar face during the presentation: himself. “Surely they didn’t build a bunch of clones as slave labor… and surely Cy didn’t agree to this in the fine print.” “Refuse x Last Resort” will go on sale November 30, 2021. You can preview it here.

– The final Bad Idea book then begins on December 1, 2021. “Odinn’s Eye,” written by Joshua Dysart, featuring Tomas Giorello on art duties and colors by Diego Rodrguiez, is a five-issue weekly series about Solveig, a farm girl plagued by dreams of Odinn. The god tasks her with a mission to retrieve his eye, the eye he sold for wisdom, and “a war party is assembled. Solveig and a band of warriors — including an all-seeing witch — are sent north on a great quest — one which will change all that she knows, all who she has known, and all that she will become.” Here’s a preview.

– Via press release, Black Caravan, the horror imprint of Scout Comics, have announced “Swamp Dogs: House of Crows.” The five-issue miniseries will jump start the ‘Swamp Dogs’ universe. Written by J.M. Brandt and Theo Prasidis with art by Kewber Baal, and colored by Ruth Redmond, “Swamp Dogs: House of Crows” will introduce readers to the titular villains and the world that they are seeking to create. The book is “a modern take that blends grindhouse, 70s and 80s horror, stoner comedies, cult classics, and midnight movies into one wild ride,” and “follows a budding lesbian couple and The Grunch, a goofy and fun-loving metal band, as they unwittingly stumble upon the Swamp Dogs and their House of Crows.” “Swamp Dogs: House of Crows” #1 will be available in October 2021.

– Meanwhile, via ComicBook.com, Scout Comics have partnered with Comic Tags. Comic Tags is a new product launched as a way to both distribute and collect digital comic books, addressing some of the biggest problems that both comic collectors and comic publishers face in terms of digital comics. Comic Tags are limited edition collectible cards that have a unique code, which allows collectors to download a PDF copy of the graphic novel featured on the card. The cards are attached to hangable backers that open and close just like a mini-comic book, with the backers featuring interiors right from the comic. It gives customers a glimpse at what they’re getting with the digital PDF, as well as a physical piece of art they can collect along with that card. Launching today, Comic Tags have a retail price of $6.99 each. The first wave of release includes some of Scout Comics’ most popular series to date.

– Via ICv2, Ablaze Publishing have revealed their September releases, including WW2 horror comic “He Who Fights with Monsters,” by writer Francesco Artibani (“Disney Moby Dick”) and Werther Dell’Edera (“Something is Killing the Children”). Originally published in 2016 by Sergio Bonelli Editore under the name “Golem,” the series follows the resistance in Prague, as they seek a supernatural way to fight the Nazis. The other books are Tsukasa Saimura and Kozo Takahashi’s zombie series “Crueler than Dead,” Alfonso Casas’s “Monstermind: Dealing with Anxiety and Self Doubt,” and the third volume of “Trese.”

– Writer/artist Anna Meyer shared via Twitter that First Second Books have acquired her book “Saint Catherine” for publication in 2024. The graphic novel tells the story of a woman who skips Sunday Mass for the first time in her life, and then discovers she’s become possessed by a demon. “This story about relationships, religious trauma and discovering what it means to be good is so dear to my heart and I can’t wait to share it,” Meyer said.

– Finally, via Entertainment Weekly, HBO Max revealed an exclusive first look at Vincent Kartheiser’s Dr. Jonathan Crane, and Savannah Welch’s Barbara Gordon in season three of Titans. As Dick Grayson relocates from San Francisco back to Gotham he will face off against Scarecrow, rekindle his romance and strike up a new partnership with Barbara, the new Gotham Police Commissioner. Together they must reckon with Batman and Jim Gordon’s messy crimefighting legacy, and hopefully find a better way of protecting the city. Season three of Titans begins streaming August 12, 2021. HBO Max also released a teaser trailer for the upcoming season which focuses on Jason Todd and offers a glimpse of The Red Hood: you can check it out here.
