– Marvel Comics announced that “Amazing Spider-Man” #74 (which is also the milestone issue #875 according to the legacy numbering), will be the final issue of writer Nick Spencer’s run on the title. The issue, subtitled ‘What Cost Victory,’ will be 80 pages long, and feature artwork by various artists from Spencer’s time on the title, including Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley, and Marcelo Ferreira. Details about the issue were otherwise kept under wraps, with editor Nick Lowe simply teasing that Spencer “will bring his web-slinging rollercoaster ride back into the station in a way you’ll never forget!” Details about the “next era of Spider-Man” are due this week. “Amazing Spider-Man” #74 is set to be released on September 22.

– Z2 Comics will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Public Enemy’s album, Apocalypse 91: The Enemy Strikes Black, with a new “commemorative sequel” graphic novel called “Apocalypse 91: Revolution Never Sleeps.” The graphic novel will be a collaborative effort between a host of creators, including Public Enemy rapper Chuck D, who will be writing and illustrating part of the book; Regine Sawyer; and Koi Turnbull. Together, the creators will tell stories of speculative fiction that shoot off into the future from the album’s debut year. The graphic novel is scheduled for release in November, with a selection of different editions available via Z2 Comics directly.

– Via The Beat, Dark Horse Comics unveiled four new Mignolaverse collected editions: “Tales from the Outerverse,” will collect both issues of “Cojacaru the Skinner” and “The Golem Walks Among Us!,” as well as the “Imogen of the Wyrding Way” one-shot; “House of Lost Horizons: A Sarah Jewell Mystery” which will collect all five issues of the series by the same name; the hardcover book, “Lobster Johnson Omnibus Volume 1,” which will combine the trade paperback volumes ‘The Burning Hand,’ ‘Satan Smells a Rat,’ and ‘Get the Lobster’ with the “Lobster Johnson: The Empty Chair” short story; and “Hellboy Universe Essentials: Lobster Johnson,” which will repackage “Lobster Johnson: The Burning Hand” #1-5 for new readers. All four collected editions are scheduled for release in comic book shops and bookstores between January and March next year. To see the cover art and full solicitations head over to The Beat.

– Edgardo Miranda-Rodríguez (“La Borinqueña”) announced a collaboration with Chocolate Cortés to launch the “Activate Your Powers with the Arts” campaign. The campaign intends to shine the spotlight on the company’s cultural and educational efforts in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, with the campaign’s initial event being an exhibition of original artwork from “La Borinqueña.” There is also special merchandise being released as part of the collaboration, including Cortés Chocolate bars with packaging designed by Miranda-Rodríguez. There are four different bars, each allowing access to a comic strip that together make up a new “La Borinqueña” story. The comic book series first launched in 2016, and saw an Earth and Environmental science student, Marisol Rios De La Luz, gaining superpowers while studying at the University of Puerto Rico. The exhibition is open to visitors now. For further details, head over to Chocolate Cortés’s website.

Deadline reported that Tom Spezialy (Watchmen) has signed an exclusive deal with Amazon Studios which will see him serving as an executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming Silk series. The series is being developed by Sony Pictures Television but is set to debut via Amazon Prime Video. Lauren Moon (Atypical) is already onboard the series an an executive producer, as are Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Amy Pascal, the latter of whom is producer of the Spider-Man franchise. Silk will chronicle the adventures of Cindy Moon, who, in the comics, is bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker, and gains similar abilities to him, though her speed and Spider-Sense are greater than Peter’s. Silk does not currently have a release date.

– Finally, in an interview with Collider, actress Scarlett Johansson looked back on her first appearance as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in Iron Man 2, and critcized its attitudes towards her character, saying “while it was really fun and had a lot of great moments in it, the character is so sexualized, you know?” She added she was “really talked about like she’s a piece of something, like a possession or a thing or whatever,” and went on to detail how her own self-worth is no longer being “measured against [the] type of comment” that her character receives in the film, especially after she became a mother; “I’m more accepting of myself, I think. All of that is related to that move away from the kind of hyper-sexualization of this character.” Black Widow, the character’s first solo film, is set for release in cinemas on July 7 in the UK and July 9 in the US. The film will be released via Disney+ Premier Access on July 9 too.
