In case you missed it, the second annual Prism Awards were held on Saturday, July 21, at the San Diego Comic Con, and Koyama Press is closing in 2021.

– Gina Prince-Bythewood has officially signed on to direct Skydance’s The Old Guard, a big screen adaptation of Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez’s acclaimed comic book about a group of immortal mercenaries. This news comes via The Hollywood Reporter which also notes that Prince-Bythewood remains attached to the Spider-Man spinoff film Silver and Black (which is currently stalled in development limbo).
– DC is giving fans a special preview for the Reign of the Supermen, the follow up to The Death Of Superman animated adaptation. Superfans can view a special featurette for the film at ComicBook.com.
– It turns out The Jim Jefferies Show‘s segment on Richard Meyer was far from the original idea. According to Heather Antos (via her Twitter page) “Earlier this month the @jefferiesshow reached out to me to speak about Diversity in Comics”and Comicsgate as part of their SDCC coverage. When I declined due to the past year of targeted abuse, harassment, and threats to myself & other women and minorities in the industry, @jefferiesshow reached out to our abuser, giving his platform an international spotlight…. The @jefferiesshow doesn’t care about people. They just care about having an edgy hit piece with no concern of the ramifications for the humans involved. And that’s disgusting.”
– According to Variety, Netflix will be airing Snowpiercer, an adaptation of Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 feature film, which was in turn based on the French graphic novel “Le Transperceneige.” Variety describes the project as a “futuristic action thriller series [that] revolves around the remnants of humanity trapped inside a gigantic train after the world has become a frozen wasteland.”
– Netflix have also taken over development of the Locke & Key TV series, based on Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s IDW comic. Netflix are not picking up the pilot that Hulu passed on four months ago, and will redevelop and recast the show.
– Newsarama.com confirms that Justice League Odyssey #1 has been pushed back from its original release date of July 11th to September 27. Consequently, “Justice League Odyssey” issues #2 and #3 have also been pushed back in the DC Preview solicitations.
– Playground and First Look Media’s Topic Studios are developing a new TV series with acclaimed comic book writer Tom King (“Mister Miracle”). King is working on a sociopolitical one hour drama entitled the States of America. According to CBR.com, the one-hour drama is set “in a deeply divided United States that, after an unprovoked act of war, is forced to suffer foreign occupation for the sake of an uneasy peace.”
– DC Entertainment announced on Wednesday (via The Hollywood Reporter) that it has partnered with Snapchat to begin publishing new “Mad Magazine” content on a daily basis. MAD senior vice president and executive editor John Ficarra noted that MAD will continue tackling topics of current interest including “sports, celebrities, politics, pop culture and anything else in the zeitgeist. Nothing is off the table because nothing has ever been off the table with MAD.”
